A battle occurs in a castle floating over Faerûn, between an adult white dragon (name unknown) and a group of adventurers. After the dragon's defeat, the castle crashes into the surface below; the main site of the impact comes to be known as "Dragonsfall". This event marks the end of the Violet Scions Conflict of 1489.
The Platinum Monastery discovers that several of its kobold workers were kidnapped in the night. The monastery dispatches a group of local heroes to investigate the matter, but loses contact with them shortly after.
The drow outpost of Velkynvelve comes under attack by a group of demons. During the chaos of battle, the prisoners of the base stage a breakout and flee.
During the middle of a ritual to a strange Guardian, the kuo-toa village of Sloobludop comes under attack by Demogorgon, the self-proclaimed "Prince of Demons". He rampages around the city, causing great destruction and death; however, thanks to the efforts of a small band of heroes, Demogorgon is distracted long enough for many of the citizens to flee.
The Blade Bazaar, Gracklstugh's commercial hub, is attacked by a stone giant formerly allied with the city. The giant, mutated to have a second head by dark powers, rampages around the marketplace, but is defeated by a band of visiting heroes. The giant is captured by the Steel Guard and put under watch until his curse can be lifted.
The deep gnomes of Blingdenstone stage an attack to cripple the oozes occupying a portion of their city. Thanks to the heroic efforts of a group of adventurers, they are able to slay the individual holding magical sway over the oozes, shattering their cohesiveness and drastically lessening the threat. The city's forces retreat in good order, re-establishing their barricades and fortifying against future incursions.
On their way to the surface, the Heroes of Blingdenstone are confronted by drow priestess Ilvara Mizzrym, their former captor, and her party. A fight ensues, and during the course of it one of the drow, Jorlan, defects to the adventurers and helps ensure the defeat of the rest. The remaining drow are slain, and Jorlan, knowing he can never return to Menzoberranzan, accompanies the Heroes of Blingdenstone from then on.
At the behest of King Bruenor of Gauntlgrym, the Heroes of Blingdenstone begins an expedition into the Underdark, supported by the Five Factions of Faerun. The goal of the expedition is to establish a presence in the Underdark, creating alliances between the dwarven city and others of the Underdark. These alliances are both political and commercial in nature.
Upon arrival in Mantol-Derith, the Wolf Pack discovers that all factions in the city have turned on each other. During the course of brokering truces, they discover the culprit: the Prince of Lies, Fraz-Urb'luu, trapped in an obsidian gem. They destroy the gem, and after an intense battle, banish his essence to the Abyss.
The Wolf Pack launches an attack against the outpost of Velkynvelve, putting all drow within to the sword and conquering it for themselves.
During the course of an investigation in Gracklstugh, the leaders of the Wolf Pack discover a plot devised by a cult to Demogorgon; a ritual to corrupt Themberchaud, the red dragon Wyrmsmith of Gracklstugh, using demonic power from the demon lord. The dragon rampages throughout the duergar city, but the Wolf Pack commanders are able to slay both the cultists and the dragon, putting an end to the scheme but also crippling the production capabilities of the duergar.
