Geography

The Himmelsgebirge are technily two mountain ranges on top eachother. On going from the north to the south, the other from the northeast to the southwest. The Himmelsgebirge is roughly devided in three parts. A hilly area nearly surrounding the entire mountains on all sides. Only the northwest, inside the Kurwresen Kingdom are the mountains steep, without a gradient of hills. The hills around the mountains are rather smooth in their elevation gradient. The hills shap are like plateaus and terraces. Ideal for farming and buildings. Many small lakes are gatherd in this area, collecting rain and mountain water. Many of the hills are populated with dens forests.
The second part is the mountain area. In this part the vegetaition gradates from forest to grassland to mosses. The nothern parts of the Himmelsgebirge are characterized by step cliffs and sharp rocks. These were created by the great wasteland that reach the northern parts of the mountains. It drastically accelerated the errosion of the rocks, that broke apart, leaving sharp edges steep falls behind. Not many living beings dare to stray away from the path. Many forests climb the mountains high up and cover them with a nice green tone.
The last part is the summit area, which also contains the central area, which is the unexplored part of the mountains. It has no vegetation and bar rocks and cliffs peak through the thick layer of ice and snow. Only the most extrem people even try to enter this area, but to this day only a handfull reached further in to the central area of the mountain and less returned alive. Few were miraculous returned by rivers. Not much is know about this area, but many think the peaks and summit reach above the clouds.

Localized Phenomena

One expedition that went into the central area, reported that clouds are trapped inside the deeper parts of the central area. They couldn't reach further to explore below the clouds, but they hypothesized that their might be a vally with animals unkown to anyone. Maybe even culturally creative species. Another hypothesis is that it might be the origin of the belived magical power, that fuels the golden forest.
