Tchernobog

Demonlord of Despair

Tchernobog is the demonlord of despair, revered by those who worship darkness, night, and the underworld. Known as the "Black God", Tchernobog is the source of all negative emotions and fears such as cruelty, famine, grief, illness, madness, poverty, sorrow, and woe. He is most powerful during winter when the sun sets and hope begins to fade. Tchernobog brings despair to those suffering in the cold, waiting for spring to arrive.   With an unquenchable appetite and an insatiable anger, Tchernobog demands horse and human sacrifices to appease him. He exists solely to destroy anything that is good and obliterates kindness wherever he finds it. Tchernobog's evil is meticulous and relentless, slowly draining the goodness from his victims, leaving nothing but agony and disgust behind.   His followers worship destruction, death, and the obliteration of all that is good. Blood sacrifices are common among them, and they strive to embody Tchernobog's depravity. However, even they cannot reach the full depth of evil that Tchernobog embodies.

Characteristics

Physical features

Tchernobog is depicted as a massive, shadowy demon warrior, covered in decaying flesh and bearing a magical spear. His eyes are blazing red, his mouth a snarling scowl, and his aura exudes pure black evil. He is hatred personified and the complete collapse of hope follows him wherever he goes.

Worship

Worshiper

During sacred rituals, followers of Tchernobog, the demonlord of despair, gather in secret to pay homage. They share a cup filled with a black ichor, symbolizing their devotion to Tchernobog and cursing the names of deities.   Tchernobog is detested by gods and other demonlords and his followers are known for their fierce hatred of other deities. They are rumored to burn books, destroy temples, and desecrate all symbols of gods or other demonlords.   Mentioning Tchernobog's name is considered bad luck among the masses, but for his followers, it is a show of loyalty. They often use the phrase "May the demonlord exterminate you" as a form of greeting.   The worship of Tchernobog is a secretive and often misunderstood cult. Despite this, rumors persist of the immense power and evil that Tchernobog wields. Those who openly follow him are viewed as dangerous and outcast from society, but it is rumored that even those who do not openly worship Tchernobog pay homage to him in secret, out of fear of reprisal.

Clergy

There is no central location for worshiping Tchernobog, the demonlord of despair. Those who stand against him try to eradicate all traces of his presence. As a result, Tchernobog's followers must keep their practices secret and gather in safe hidden locations under the cover of darkness. Abandoned villages and dark forests provide the perfect cover for their rituals.   Tchernobog's cult, the Blackened Horde, consisting of demons and other evil beings, do not have a moral code and are not openly evil. However, their ultimate goal remains the same: to eliminate hope and bring despair to the world.
