Blackened Horde Organization in Toriel | World Anvil

Blackened Horde

The Blackened Horde is a cult dedicated to Tchernobog, the Demonlord of despair. Comprised of demons and other evil beings, the cult worships Tchernobog as the source of all negative emotions and fears.   During sacred rituals, members of the Blackened Horde gather in secret to pay homage to Tchernobog. They share a cup filled with black ichor, symbolizing their devotion to the demonlord and cursing the names of deities. The worship of Tchernobog is considered dangerous and outcast from society, with rumors of immense power and evil wielded by the cult.   The Blackened Horde is a secretive and often misunderstood cult, with no central location for worshiping Tchernobog. The cult must keep their practices secret and gather in hidden locations under the cover of darkness, such as abandoned villages and dark forests. They are rumored to burn books, destroy temples, and desecrate symbols of gods or other demonlords, and their followers are known for their fierce hatred of other deities.

Goals

The cult ultimate goal is to eliminate hope and bring despair to the world.   The Blackened Horde does not have a moral code and is openly evil, with their actions motivated by the desire to bring despair to the world. Despite the dangerous reputation of the cult, it is rumored that even those who do not openly worship Tchernobog pay homage to him in secret out of fear of reprisal.

Admittance

To become a member of the cult, one must first prove their devotion to Tchernobog. This usually involves committing acts of violence or destruction in the demonlord's name.   Once accepted into the cult, members must undergo a ritual of ascension:

Within a fiery circle, on a chilling winter's eve, the cultist vocalizes his fervent desire, binding himself with an irrevocable pledge. In the realm of dreams, Tchernobog descends, as the cultist's consciousness becomes wholly owned by the lord of despair. The cultist's cherished memories wither in the icy grip of sorrow, yearning for release from their tortured existence. This tumultuous fusion of emotions spirals into madness, devouring the cultist's sanity whole.
