Tanesh Cinderbones Character in Toriel | World Anvil

Tanesh Cinderbones

Tanesh is a death knight, forced to submit to Dana Redqwir and therefore to the Cult of the Damned. He will only be freed if his master finds the Book of Vile Darkness or die, but given the immortal form of the Vampire, the first is more likely.

History

Tanesh was a paladin of Nesiven, the goddess of blood and wine. His home in Galena, the paladin was often found protecting caravan journeying to Megima. It is during those missions that he met Dana, an acolyte of Nesiven. A relationship that bloomed over the years, their regular meeting forging a bond of friendship and thrust between the two, or so thought Tanesh.   Slowly, Tanesh found himself agreeing more and more with Dana's idea, the woman drawing him further and further from his oath with stories about the goddess he prayed. Tanesh found himself serving the "acolyte of Nesiven" rather than his goddess, an act that valued him to become an oathbreaker.   Realizing the holy powers bestowed upon him were gone, the ancient paladin sought Dana's guidance. She offered him new power, something that many could consider unholy, but power that follows the paladin beyond death. Tempted, but unsure, Tanesh sought time to think, something Dana refused to give him, as she was seeing in him a powerful pawn, killing him.   Tanesh vision faded to black, as his soul left his body, hoping he would be forgiven for his sins, hoping he could walk the path of Mount Olympus. But his soul was caught by Dana's dark power, forced back into a body that he could not even recognize as his own due to the necromancer's corruption. Unwillingly bound to his body, he would only be freed from his chain when he would bring the book of vile darkness to Dana.   Tanesh now forced to follow Dana's every command, is a restless death knight, and the second in command of the cult of the damned, hell-bent on finding the book for his master.
