Giant Island Geographic Location in Toriel | World Anvil

Giant Island

The Giant island is an island up north of Siniadòr isolated from the rest of the world. The large island is home to the various giant and is normally the only place in Toriel where those giants are supposed to live as they were banned after the Draco-Giant War.

Geography

The vast island is mainly covered by large trees, the size of which reflects the huge inhabitant of the island as they are normally big, as is everything on this island. A lake in the middle of the island provides a coast around which many giants were able to settle and build their town, and the mountains to the east of the lake provide natural cover and home for other kinds of giants such as the stone giants. The island show numerous sign of exploration, through the various town, the mining facilities, and the path sinking through the land.   However, the island is so far up north that it is quite hostile to those who lack the strong constitution of giants.

Features

Extreme Cold. Whenever the temperature is at or below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, a creature exposed to the cold must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw at the end of each hour or gain one level of exhaustion. Creatures with resistance or immunity to cold damage automatically succeed on the saving throw, as do creatures wearing cold weather gear (thick coats, gloves, and the like) and creatures naturally adapted to cold climates.   Slippery Ice. THe lake in the middle of the island, and most water sources that are out in the wild are covered in a thick layer of slippery ice. Slippery ice is difficult terrain. When a creature moves onto slippery ice for the first time on a turn, it must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check or fall prone.   Frigid Water. The creature than manage to break the ice will encounter the frigid water of this northern region. A creature can be immersed in frigid water for a number of minutes equal to its Constitution score before suffering any ill effects. Each additional minute spent in frigid water requires the creature to succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion. Creatures with resistance or immunity to cold damage automatically succeed on the saving throw, as do creatures that are naturally adapted to living in ice-cold water.   Thrym’s Howl. These bone-chilling blizzards drive a wall of wind and snow like a living glacier. Due to the howling wind and dense blue-white ice particles, the area in the storm is heavily obscured, and ranged attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks made within it have disadvantage.
Any creature exposed to the storm at the start of its turn takes 2d6 cold damage and can’t regain hit points until it spends at least 1 hour in a warm environment. A creature that dies in the storm freezes solid. Creatures that are immune to cold damage are immune to the effects of the storm and can see normally within it.
Thrym’s howl typically lasts 2d10 hours.
