Harken is father to Markus Corby and Wayne Corby, husband to Mildred Brushfeld and estranged father to Tilly Yllastin-Daughter Florian. He is a true blooded Mekyazgi, and resents the Balkirian empire for conquering his homeland. This resentment is personified in his sister's (Isadora Silenthall-Corby) choice of husband; Captain in the Baron's Guard, Lloyd Silenthall. He has ties to the Landless Men , helping them in an assasination attempt on Baron Alecto Bedegar that was thwarted by The Heroes of Rendshire. In an attempt to cover his tracks, he poisoned Noori Tetcheri, resulting in the loss of his legs. He has since acquiesced to their skill and dedication to protect his people, as well as secretly wishing to provide for his daughter, Tilly, becoming a voice of support for their actions on Corby's Landing Town Council
