Three Shires Overview

After the events of the Battle of Worldbreaker's Howe, the actions of Lurgrak and his faction of Orcs was clearly leading towards the The Fourth Conclave of the Seven Kingdoms recognizing their sovereignty over the Orcish Steppes (events which ultimately led to the formation of the orcish nation of Aiyolhast). This led to great discontent among the Halflings of Dalenshire , who were well aware that some of the lands likely to be formally ceded to the orcs were once theirs. In exchange for their agreement, disagreement among the halflings and requests for concessions led to the formation of the Three Shires, a loose alliance of halfling nations. These nations are:

Dalenshire: The most southern region of old Dalenshire, comprised largely of bayous and some badlands. This area borders on Aiyolhast and is largely comprised of the halflings who were most open to the idea of the orcs having their own nation. Darkmoss Bayou is part of Dalenshire, and the Brambleberry and Thistleshanks Clans are very prevalent there.

Havenshire: The very eastern areas of old Dalenshire and land ceded to them by Summerlund in exchange for their recognition of Aiyolhast as a nation. The lands they inhabit have some bayous but are mostly rolling field and hill, allowing them to return to traditional halfling ways of life of farming and dwelling under hills in classic halfling Abitasj.

Sturrowshire: The northern area of what was once Dalenshire, largely comprised of some of the richest bayous, as well as land grants from Summerlund that include valuable farmland. These halflings are among those who most vehemently opposed the forming of an orcish nation and wanted as much distance between them and the orcs as possible. The largely do not acknowledge the existence of Aiyolhast, still referring to the region as the Orcish Steppes. The Willowshade clan holds great sway in Sturrowshire and is among the wealthiest of halfling families.

While the Three Shires are anything but united politically, they share much more in common than they are unalike to one another. They share a language, a religion, a national flag, and many customs, and it would be a rarity for a halfling of the Three Shires to refuse aid to another, regardless of what shire they hail from.
