Chader-Shadi

Ruled by Sultan Lago, the Magic City of Splendor is a sight to behold.   Most positions of power are held by magic users, and led by the Bahtim. Most noble families expect their members to at the very least be proficient with basic magic. It is fairly common for the heads of noble families to be powerful mages in their own right.   The city prides itself on being advanced culturally and magically compared to other places in Toivoa. The citizens of the city have a very high standard of living, even in the relatively poorer areas.   The city has public transportation. Trains of carriages pulled by magical constructs carry people throughout the city. The city also has a lot of conveniences provided by magic such as lighting, air conditioning, and indoor plumbing.   The city is also a large exporter of salt and other minerals. Due to these materials being a byproduct of various magical processes. A massive factory with hordes of fire elementals is constantly distilling seawater 24/7, and refining other minerals.   The Grand Library of Chader-Shadi is one of the big draws of the city. It was started ages ago when a powerful archmage donated his private library to the city and founded a trust for its upkeep. Since then the library has expanded into a full blown university. The naming can be a bit confusing because the Grand Library is also a public library that any citizen of Chader-Shadi can visit.   Outsiders and foreigners pay a small admittance fee each time they enter or they can pay a 1,000g a month for a library card.   Within the Greater Grand Library organization/campus, there are multiple trade schools and institutions of higher learning. The most famous is the magic school, but one can learn practically any trade or business at the Grand library if they can gain admittance.   On occasions where formal dress is required, in addition to the nice robes and dresses, the students and faculty wear long stoles or sashes around their shoulders. These long garments indicate things like social station (based on material), the level of mastery of their trade (based on color), and any skills, specialties or achievements that they have earned. The latter are embroidered onto the garment in various runes, symbols, and adornments like tassels or cords.
