Oonagh

Oonagh was the previous Unseelie Queen. Born with minor ice magic (just frost magic) her parents largely ignored her as they focused on grooming her sister Moriath to be the future queen due to Moriath's power. But when the parent presented their daughters at court for a Yule Ball, the crown prince, Fionnbharr, fell in love with Oonagh instead, and insisted on marrying her, even if she was less powerful.

The pair reigned for many years and had two daughters, Niamh and Maeve. They were good monarchs and Faerie showed it's blessing by giving them both magic crowns. They made friends with the dwarven refugees when their ships land on Unseelie shores and granted them the mountains to live in. Oonagh was an accomplished swordswoman and loved to bake apple pies.

But Moriath felt that Oonagh had stolen everything that should have been hers and arranged to have Oonagh killed in a battle with the Unseelie King, Fiachra, when Niamh and Maeve were just little girls.

Introduction to Oonagh in the books

Kylian stopped in front of a portrait of a man with curly red hair, a matching beard, and blue eyes. Beside him, with her hand on his arm, stood a woman with long black hair, gray eyes, and rosy cheeks. She was soft and curvy, just like me, with a round face and full red lips tilted up in a smile. They each held an owl perched on their free hands, his large and white, hers little and gray.

Favourite Oonagh Quotes

“No more sneaking apple slices.” My mother bopped me on the nose with a flour-covered finger.

“But I'm so hungry!” My little fingers—still chubby enough to end in dimples on the back of my hand—reached for another slice of fruit.

We were baking in the green kitchen of the cottage. I loved it when we came here and it was just the four of us. Just our family together.

“Well, you certainly worked up an appetite chasing your father all morning and climbing the apple tree, but if you eat any more, I won’t have enough left for the pie.” Mama’s glossy black hair shimmered in the sunlight from the window as she shook her head at me. “No more slices. Grab a whole apple.”

“But these are yummier,” I said, my mouth full of apple, “because you already put love into them!”
