Fionnbharr
Fionnbharr was the previous Unseelie King. He loved to hunt and had the magical ability to talk to animals. As the crown prince, he was expected to marry a fae woman with powerful magic to keep the crown in the family, as it was believed to pass to the most powerful Unseelie fae in the kingdom. But when he was introduced to Moriath, the most powerful fae of their generation, at a Yule Ball, he fell in love with her less powerful sister, Oonagh, instead and insisted on marrying her, even if she was less powerful.
The pair reigned for many years and had two daughters, Niamh and Maeve. They were good monarchs and Faerie showed it's blessing by giving them both magic crowns. They made friends with the dwarven refugees when their ships land on Unseelie shores and granted them the mountains to live in.
But Moriath felt that Oonagh had stolen everything that should have been hers and arranged to have Oonagh killed in a battle with the Unseelie King, Fiachra, when Niamh and Maeve were just little girls.
She bewitched Fionnbharr who believed that he was in love with her, and convinced him that she would make a wonderful stepmother to her nieces. After the wedding, she slowly poisoned him with her magic and took over ruling the kingdom.
Eventually, after Moriath trades Maeve away to reduce competition for the crown, Fionnbharr succumbs to the magical poison. Before he dies, he has enough clarity to ask Kylian to take Niamh to safety. He had always treated Kylian with kindness, even while he was under Moriath's enchantment.
Inspiration Note: Oonagh and Fionnbharr are the fairy monarchs of the Tuatha Dé Danann in Western Ireland according to Irish folklore.

Introduction to Fionnbharr in the books
Kylian stopped in front of a portrait of a man with curly red hair, a matching beard, and blue eyes. Beside him, with her hand on his arm, stood a woman with long black hair, gray eyes, and rosy cheeks. She was soft and curvy, just like me, with a round face and full red lips tilted up in a smile. They each held an owl perched on their free hands, his large and white, hers little and gray.Inspiration Note: Oonagh and Fionnbharr are the fairy monarchs of the Tuatha Dé Danann in Western Ireland according to Irish folklore.
