Diplodocus

Only found on The Great Namilli Plains, these animals are the subject of the famous Diplodocus Festival Hunts.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Diplodocus have long necks and equally long tails. The last third of their tail is extremely skinny, and used as a whip in self defense.

Growth Rate & Stages

Diplodocus grow very slowly. They lay a clutch of around ten eggs at the edge of the Thadal Rainforest, where the young will be safe from the large plains predators. The young are not considered big enough to join a herd until after about 25 years, which is around the time they become just to big to comfortably wander around the trees in the Thadal Rainforest. They are not mature enough to lay their own eggs until after about 50 years.

Ecology and Habitats

Until around age 25, they live in the fringes of the Thadal Rainforest. Afterwards, they join a herd that wanders around The Great Namilli Plains.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They feed off the occasional giant tree and graze the large stalks of grass that grow all over the plains. Unless they keep moving, they will quickly deplete the area of any edible plant life, and as such, each herd migrates constantly.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The herd are somewhat matriarchal, in the sense that an old female is usually the one leading the herd. The is a large chance the members of the herd are not related to each other, since when a diplodocus is old enough to leave the Thadal Rainforest, they join up with whichever herd they find first.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

One adult could feed a small village for 5 days. When a herd passes by after the first of the new year, the villagers throw what is now known as the Diplodocus Festival. Their dung is very potent manure, and when a herd passes by during the growing season, it is cause for minor celebration. Their thick hides make great leather armor.
