Backpack

While the Age of Spacefaring is considered to have started in the year 2016 of the All-Mighty, travelling between worlds was not a new thing for toy civilizations at the time.
The earliest instances of space travel are believed to have happened around the year 1996 when ancient toy-people are presumed to have been taken by the Breath-of-Life All-Mighty into terrifying worlds full of little All-Mighties for the day, which has seen incidents such as the arrival of Charito and the loss of Leggyness, though the real activity started around the year 2003 as the Clan of Elementalis discovered the World of Victoria and started a fruitful relationship with the planet's own clan.

The Spacecraft

The point in common through all of history before the age of Space-faring had been the vehicle used for space travel: The All-Mighty's backpack, a contraption strapped to the back of the gigantic creature which the toys would get inside and, after about an hour or three and a lot of shaking, would deposit them in the destination ready for adventure.
The Backpack is an opaque vehicle, preventing the toys from seeing whichever lies in the space between worlds. It is theorized that the space is so grandiose and uncomprehensible that seeing it could drive a toy mad, and therefore the All-Mighties have designed the backpack as a dark case in order to keep the toys safe.
From the outside, backpacks are generally black and richly adorned, and for many years they would be covered from top to bottom in round shields of metal, coated with some sort of design, generally depicting a character or symbol. In recent years, this armour has been replaced by cushioned insides and a better, more rigid structure.

What Came After

Paradoxically enough, as the age of space-faring started, the toys progressively stopped doing active space travelling, instead only leaving the planet to conquer a new one every couple of years.
Those exodus would be so massive that the trusty backpack would not be enough to transport the people efficiently, so in most of these cases each nation would travel inside of an (still safely opaque) crate-like spaceship instead.
