Coatix'tola
Defences
Stepped Walls. The City of Coatix'tola is surrounded by a set of incredibly solid walls maintained by earth mages. On a regular basis, the city extends the walls by completing a ritual to add another layer beneath them
Swirling Trench. Around the walls of the city is a rushing stream, leading from the ocean then straight back in. Churned to speed by elaborate runecraft, the current is strong enough to sweep invaders off their feet.
Infrastructure
Advanced Harbor. No mere dock, this structure is a multitiered system of locks, geysers, and cranes designed to be able to lift entire ships from the water, repair them, then set them back on their journey.
Sewage and Plumbing. The Cotolans not only have a robust waste management system, they also have running water standard across the whole city, well maintained and upkept.
Canal Network. While the city began on dry land, it quickly extended into the water, and the water extended into it. While the city can be navigated via the extensive web of bridges connecting one building to another, traversing the city by water can be far faster.
Floating Gardens. Much of the agriculture of Coatix'tola is actually aquaculture, with marshy crops floating on the surface of shallow pools and acquatic varieties at the bottom. Dry land crops tend to come from outlying villages or trade with other citites.
Tidal Power. Much of the industry in the city relies on a system of flywheels of enormous capacity spinning at incredible speeds. This resource can be hooked into for a price, as while the tidal power that runs it is limitless, the network itself has a given load capacity.

Architecture
The structures of Coatix'tola revolves around the prevalence of earth mages. Rather than starting from the ground up, Cotolans construct each subsequent floor beneath the first, then raise it to the surface, bringing the entire structure upward. This has resulted in the peculiar Stepped Pyramid style of their buildings. However, for the wealthy stone is far too pedestrian. Their structures may be based in stone, but inevitably are capped with wooden floors- and the more of them, the better. While wood would seem cheaper with the nearby jungle, over time the primordial energies of the area tend to cause dead wood to sprout to life with awkward and unsightly growths. As such, only the rich can afford the incessant maintenance to keep a wooden structure static.
