Ward of Selimar

The Ward of Selimar is a political and geographic division of the Kingdom of Cobal.  It is located in the northeastern section of the Kingdom, with the Ward of Stomar on its northern border, the Manisar River and Caldar River on its eastern frontier with Imesse and the Ward of Elimar to the south.   The Ward is a small strip of territory that averages only 18 miles north-to-south and just 75 miles east-to-west.  At just over 1,300 square miles, it is significantly smaller than the State of Rhode Island.  The population is small, as well, at just a little over 16,000 souls.  Fully half of those people are Halflings and more than 5,000 are Humans.  More than 9,000 of the residents of the Ward live within one thousand yards of either the Manisar or Caldar Rivers.   The seat of government for the Ward is located in the City of Selimar on the south bank of the Manisar River.  The Warden of Selimar is Hershum Berry, a 51-year-old Halfling born and raised in the City of Selimar itself.  The Ward is itself divided into the sections:  the City of Selimar, the Shire of Chaseton and the Shire of Wudrun.

Structure

Division of the Kingdom ruled by the Warden, and further divided into two Shires and a City.

Demography and Population

Last Regent's Census counted the Ward's population at 16,010 souls.  8,000 of those are Halflings, 5,500 are Human and the rest are Dwarves and Gnomes.  No Elves live in the Ward.

Territories

1,350 square miles of land.  The eastern-most portions of this are alluvial plains fronting the two great rivers.  The center portions of the Ward are broken by vast stretches of primevil forest and broken grasslands.  The western-most reaches of the Ward are rough hills and highlands and are very sparcely populated.

Military

Because of past invasions from Imesse, the Ward maintains a higher-than-average number of standing troops for its defense.  A full Regiment of Dragoons is rotated through the Ward every 90 days, with several Companies stationed at key positions and roads all throughout the year.  In addition, there are always four Companies of Rangers and two Scout Companies rotating through the strong points and defenses that have been built along the river's edges to deter and defend against future crossings by hostile armies.
