Ulan Emperor

The ruler of the Empire of Sellenia is titled the Ulan Emperor and has been for the last 151 years. The word "Ulan" is Sellenian for high wizard or mighty sorcerer and denotes an actual magical ability that is required to ascend to the Alabaster Throne of Sellenia. The reigning Ulan Emperor is Hyrash IX and he has ruled the Empire for 19 years.   There have been thirteen Ulan Emperors since the first ascended to the throne in 82 AF and all have had to adequately demonstrate a significant mastery of some form of magic. These demonstrated abilities have varied in practicality over the last century and a half, but the most powerful Ulan Emperors to ascend the Alabaster Throne have been the first and the last.   The first Ulan Emperor was Joramah, the illegitimate son of Emperor Bayram III. Joramah felt slighted and marginalized by his illegitimacy and used a natural magical talent to summon demons into the world to brutally kill his father and all his siblings, thus taking the Alabaster Throne for himself. Joramah then married his own mother and fathered his own heir with her, establishing the precedent that all future Emperors demonstrate a magical ability or talent to claim the throne and rule the empire.
