Terrin am Nari (tehr-een)
Lord Terrin am Nari (a.k.a. Terry)
Terrin am Nari is the second son of the Duke of Hekmo, Turl am Nari and his wife, Sara Waldegrave. He is a 22-year-old Human from the City of Hekmo and has recently been dubbed a Knight of the Realms of Imesse.
Terrin was the first of three sons born to Turl and Sara after their marriage. He is a tall, strong man with exceptional riding skills and a talent for jousting. He has done a significant amount of travelling over the last four years and has seen much of the country, both good and bad. While competing in various tournaments in neighboring duchies and baronies, he has seen communities and settlements that are thriving, as well as stagnant area where heavy tax burdens and unreasonable price fixing have driven the costs of goods and services too high to sustain. He was most impressed with the difference seen between a city like Arksloth in the Duchy of Hekmo and the City of Len Doa on the eastern coast. Arksloth is a run-down, neglected place where people are sullen and increasingly resentful of the tax collector's visits, while Len Doa is a vibrant and lively city with booming trade traffic and a growing population.
Terrin was recently gifted an estate on rich farm lands located at the junction of the Hekloth and Calas Rivers by his father that he has named Greenfield Manor. The estate is quite large and consists of a rebuilt tower house, a town of 1,800 souls and several riverside villages. Terrin has plans to rule and administer the estates in a manner that will graphically demonstrate alternative methods of land, resource and revenue management as a means of reforming the local government structure and increase the population of the area.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Tall, strongly built and very athletic. Ruggedly handsome, with his father's color and his mother's features. He has taken to the habit of shaving daily, which is a real departure from the traditional Nari family habit of growing long, thick beards amongst the men of the name.
Mental characteristics
Education
Well read and intelligent, Terrin has a sharp mind and a keen eye for what works and what doesn't. He understands that efficiency and planning can accomplish more than harsh demands and intimidation. He has driven himself to learn all he can about land and resource management, but finds the results less than what he'd hoped for. He is now seriously considering looking for guidance and advice from proven examples of economic success elsewhere in the kingdom.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Terrin has gained a reputation as an excellent tournament participant, and has already won several events in his young life. He is an accomplished rider, a skilled hand with a sword, and a dead shot with a long bow.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Terrin is driven to reform his father's holdings and to help bring about a level of prosperity and growth that rivals what he has seen in Len Doa and Lorancourt. He believes that he can demonstrate the validity of his vision by making his own manorial estates an economic success within the Duchy of Hekmo.
He has seen first-hand the economic and industrial success that the Duchy of Len Doa is currently experiencing and is fervently trying to emulate the process that drives that success in his own estate at Greenfield Manor. He is trying to recruit able and competent leaders and talent that can help him develop his new holdings without generating ire and anger from his father and half-brother.
Vices & Personality flaws
Terrin has shown an irrational dislike for his half-brother, Torum am Nari. As boorish as Torum is, Terrin finds himself very intimidated by the man and will go to great lengths to avoid any sort of confrontation with him. His mother and siblings see this as a flaw, but he has so far been unable to alter his gut reaction to Torum's bullying.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Terrin has developed a close friendship with Edris Isenbar, a young lord and talented tournament participant from the City of Wessold in the western half of the northern Kingdom. They correspond regularly, and whenever they are together for events or tournaments, they are nearly inseperable.
Family Ties
Terrin has a rather distant relationship with his august father, but he holds genuine affection for the man. He is very close to his mother and his younger brothers. He is very intimidated by his older brother, Torum, and avoids any contact with him whenever possible.
Terrin's father is actively trying to arrange a marriage with the Lord High Constable of Imesse for the union of Terrin and Sandor's daughter, Sara Toricki. Terrin has only met the girl a few times, and as beautiful as she is, he is not enthusiastic about the arrangement.
Wealth & Financial state
While Terrin is the second son of one of the most influential and wealthiest men in the High Kingdom, he does not have a significant amount of his own money. He does, however, have the revenues and income from a rather large and potentially successful manorial estate that he hopes will soon make his fortune.
