Greenfield Keep

The Keep at Greenfield Manor is the primary residence of the Lord of the Manor, Terrin am Nari. It is an old tower that the Duchy of Hekmo had rebuilt for his son. It is located on a hill over looking the town and the Hekloth River mouth.

The Keep is now a fine and comfortable home for the young lord, with several fine and well-appointed ancillary buildings that include the stables, the gatehouse, a small but very efficient bathhouse and two levels of cellars below the Keep itself.

Design

The Keep itself is four stories with two deep cellars under the main floor. There are four fine drawing chimneys located at the corners of the tower, allowing large and efficient fireplaces to be located throughout the tower. A small gatehouse also exists and is intended to act as a guest quarters more than a defensible structure.

Sensory & Appearance

Fine wood floors with many rugs and carpets, small but cleanly glazed windows, warm and efficient fireplaces throughout, hand-crafted furniture and a large and very well designed stable.

Denizens

The Keep is the home of the Lord of Greenfield Manor and he keeps a small staff of six on hand at all times. He employs an excellent cook, a kitchen hand and two house maids, a seasoned steward, and an experienced groom.

Alterations

Rebuilt by the Duke for his son's new residence, only the outer tower walls and the small gatehouse are original. The entire interior of the keep was rebuilt with the latest designs and concepts, and while it is a small keep, it is very well appointed.

Architecture

Built of dressed limestone, the Keep boasts many fine new additions, including expensive lead sheet roofs, fine hardwood floors, a deep cold well and a fine, roomy stable.

Defenses

While more a fine country home than a fortress anymore, the Keep is still a keep. With iron-banded oak doors fully a foot thick and heavy oak shutters covering the finely glazed windows, the Keep is very defensible.

History

Built some 100 years ago to protect the Town of Greenfield's riverport, the Keep fell into serious disrepair during the rule of Duke Torn am Nari. The Duke's famously peaceful and prosperous rule of the Duchy meant actual defense was an expense that wasn't necessary, and the Keep was allowed to sit empty and neglected for more than 60 years. Damage from a series of winter storms and a fire destroyed the original roof, and the entire interior of the tower was ruined. Over the last four years, Duke Turl am Nari has spent quite a lot of gold to make the ruin a home again.
