Rowan Benroty
Ryuri Benroty, Lord Rowan Benroty
Rowan Benroty was the previous Ryuri of the Benroty Clan of central Colo and the father of the current Ryuri Benroty, Rory Benroty. He was Ryuri for 11 years at the time of his death in 214 AF.
Rowan was much loved by the Bentroty Clan, and much respected by his fellow Clan leaders across Colo. His demonstrated sense of honor, his commitment to Colo as a whole and his love and dedication to his Clan had earned him much awe and respect, even from his greatest rivals. The Ryuri Dalnyall, Olan Dalnyall, with whom he'd had harsh and heated words more than once during the first year of the second Imessian invasion of 213 AF, travelled the 130-odd miles through war-torn Colo to attend his funeral feast at Rotrishold in late 214 AF.
Rowan had married his daughter, Hewinn Benroty, to the Baron of Wessfall, Benn am Ohnni, in the year 194 AF in an attempt to improve relations between the Benroty Clan and Imesse. Hewinn did not want to marry the Baron, but did out of love and duty to her father. She returned years later to introduce her father to her son, Brock am Ohnni, and renew her relationship with the Ryuri.
Rowan died while fighting a large battle early in the summer of 214 AF along the Benroty border with Imesse. Rowan's force of 2,500 horse and foot had come upon a troop of Imessian cavalry that numbered more than 3,000 and was pushing its way northward into Benroty territory. Even though he was well into his 60's, Rowan insisted on leading the fight. In the thick of the battle, he and a number of his retinue became surrounded by Imessian cavalry, and the fighting became brutally hard. Rowan found himself faced off against a tall and seasoned knight wearing the colors of Wessfall, but did not recognize his opponent as the Baron of Wessfall, his son-in-law. Benn defeated and killed his father-in-law, but was killed himself only moments later by one of Rowan's household knights. Both men's bodies were collected and returned to their respective homes for proper burial, and word was brought to Hewinn of her father's fate with her husband's body.
