Rotrishall

Rotrishall is the primary residence and official seat of the Ryuri of the Benroty Clan of Colo, Rory Benroty. It is a sprawling and ancient fortress with many towers and walls standing high over the walls and ramparts of the eastern portion of the city of Rotrishold.

The oldest portions of the hall date back more than 500 years, and certain areas of the hall's cellars are even older, but only the outer structures of the hall show the age of the buildings. Inside the hall, rooms are brightly lit with large glazed oil lanterns and tall arched windows. Floors are finely finished in imported tile or plush carpets of many colors. Walls are paneled in fine oiled hardwoods and there are dozens of hangings and tapestries decorating them throughout.

Rotrishall is the main residence of Rory Benroty and all his extended family, as well as his vast household of servants and attendants. There are several wings and towers dedicated to the daily administration and operation of dozens of aspects of daily life for the entire Clan Benroty, of which there are more than 60,000 sworn members.

Purpose / Function

Residence and seat of authority for the Ryuri Benroty and his family.

Design

Drab, foreboding and colorless from the outside, the Rotrishall is warm, well-appointed and brightly lit within. In many rooms and halls, glazed windows have replaced arrow loops and functioning fireplaces with chimneys have replaced open hearths to improve efficiency and eliminate smoke and soot.

Sensory & Appearance

Many rooms within the Rotrishall can be described as nothing less than opulent. The Ryuri's private hall, where he is fond of having meetings early in the day over a large breakfast, has no fewer than three large fireplaces and six huge two-story glazed and leaded windows allowing oceans of light to stream in with the rising sun. Most halls and passages have fine woolen rugs on polished flag and pine floors and beautiful tapestries hanging on waxed and oiled paneled walls. Even in the coldest of winters, drafts are rare and turf fires are constantly kept stoked to keep the walls and floors a constant temperature.

Architecture

Built in many stages over many centuries, Rotrishall is a jumble of building styles and construction materials. Its outer walls are a uniform gray limestone with high peaked slate roofs on all the many towers. There are several large courtyards within the castle, and the main keep has a huge seven-story view of the eastern approach to the city. The Bailey Court of the outer castle has been turned into a training and parade area for the Claughta Guard, while the lawns and lots to the north of the interior castle walls have been turned into a large and very productive garden for the Hall's kitchens.

Defenses

Walls, gates and grounds of the Rotrishall are guarded and patrolled by the Ryuri's own Claughta Guard at all times of the day and night. That security aside, there is no much remaining of the original defensive nature of the ancient castle. Most arrow loops have been converted to glazed windows and many defensive passages within the fortress have been converted to living or operational space.
