Renee Dechateone was the wife and Queen of King Marcel III of Aria, and is the mother of the current King, Tessian. She was born to the wealthy and influential Count of Dunmor, Ranald Dechateone, who rules much of the kingdom's heartland along the Arial River.

Renee's father, Count Ranald Dechateone, is a powerful and influential noble controlling a large region of the kingdom. He arranged the marriage of his young daughter to the much older king in the hopes of increasing his influence at the Malamor court, and he was wildly successful. King Marcel was a pliable monarch, and Renee was a constant reminder of how much power and authority the king was losing year after year. Renee never maintained any real affection for her husband and chose to spend much of their marriage away from court and at her father's estates in Dunmor.
Renee is not particularly close to her son, Tessian. She continues to visit the royal court only infrequently, choosing instead to remain in her apartments at the Castel Chateone.
