Rain Dechateone is the wife of Mathis Boucher, Count of Balmor and the eldest child of Ranald Dechateone the Count of Dunmor. She is the oldest sister of the Queen Mother, Renee Carrel and the maternal aunt of the reigning King of Aria, Tessian Carrel.
It is well known amongst the ruling class of the County that Rain has a very influential role in the governing of the County. Her husband, Count Mathis Boucher, has a reputation as an indecisive and ineffectual ruler that would always rather ignore a problem in the hopes of it simply going away rather than address it with direct action. Rain has spent more than 30 years working to assist her husband overcome his hesitancy to take decisive action or make hard decisions.
Rain and her husband have five children that they raised to be influential leaders in the county and the county's government, and the marriages these children have entered into have placed them, and by extension the entire Noble House of Boucher, into the heart of Arian politics

Personal history
Rain's marriage to Mathis Boucher was arranged in 201 AF by her father, the Count of Dunmor and the then Count of Balnor, Mace Boucher. Rain was 6 years older than Mathis, and far more confident in her abilities and judgement than her betrothed, who was a shy, indecisive young man. Rain was not enthusiastic about the marriage, but as the dutiful elder daughter of a very powerful and influential noble, she did as she was expected. Many close to her then susppect that she seecretly wanted to be the daughter that was married to Marcel III, rather than her sister Renee Dechateone.
Mathis and Rain have ben married for 32 years now, and have 5 adult children.

Motivation
During the first ten years of her marriage to Mathis, Rain made many decisions for her husband based on how the results of the decisions affected her father's interests more than her husband's interests. Rain has never really loved Mathis as perhaps a wife should, but Rain has remained dutiful to her husband, and over the decades has moved her focus away from her father's influence and more towards the interests of her children and her husband's responsibilities as Count. Today, while she still makes the majority of the important judgements and decisions of the day-to-day administration of the County, she does so with the Coounty's best interest at heart.
Likes & Dislikes
Rain detests her step-mother, Gisele Magnier, who is more than thirty years younger than her. She sees the arranged marriage between Gisele and her father as a shameless attempt to buy peace between the Counties of Dunmor and Daynmor. She thinks the new Countess is stupid and hates the thought that she now has half-brothers that will share in the legacy of her father and detract from what she thinks her own children
Her issues with the House of Magnier has now brought the relations between Balmor and Daynmor to a complete standstill.

Some of her past actions and decision, especially when she acted or made decisions that directly countered the best interests of Balmor in favor of her father, still hurt her conscience, but she now has a much more Balmor-focused eye when unning the County for her husband.
