Elder Regis Gabrix
Regis Gabrix is a 210-year-old Gnome that has been appointed Alderman for the Newgate District of Len Doa. He is the primary administrative authority within the established boundaries of the district and answers only to the Lord Mayor of Len Doa and the Duke.
Regis is a famous gemsmith that has a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest craftsman of the age. He has made a career (and several fortunes) imbuing precious stones with powerful magical charms and effects. Perhaps his greatest crafting skill is in imbuing gems with counter defense charms. He has the ability to make a gem capable of countering protective or defensive charms that it may encounter at any time. Such a gem, mounted to the hilt or handle of an edged weapon, would instantly counter any magical protection it might come in contact with through combat. A shield charmed to defend against axe blows would have no additional protection against an axe fitted with a "Gabrix Stones". The same is true of any weapon, armor or even gloves and gauntlets. His ability to imbue magical charms and effects into stones aside, Regis is a master gemsmith of the first order. He has cut and faceted some of the most valuable diamonds currently known to exist, specifically the two largest stones mined from the Fangorian diamond mine known as Tor Diamas, both now in the possesion of the Prince of Fangort.
Regis lives in the smallest rowhouse on Gemstone Row, at the extreme end of the street. He lives with his parents, his wife and seven children and their spouses and children, his wife's parents and two of her brothers and their families. In all, his small three-story rowhouse is home to more than 40 Gnomes, all of whom work at either his shop or somewhere very close on the Row.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Regis stands only 3'9" and weighs just 90 lbs. He keeps his hair rather long and uncombed and his face clean shaven. He has bright, clear almond-colored eyes and enormous ears. Even for a Gnome, Regis has a very slight build and looks terribly frail. In actual fact, Regis is remarkably strong.
Special abilities
Regis has an incredible ability to imbue gemstones with magical effects. These can be healing effects (a gem that heals wounds in hours instead of days or weeks), protection effects or counter-protection effects (gems that can protect the holder from injury or remove similar protection), vision and communication effects (gems that allow one to see the invisible or understand any spoken language), even effects that allow the holder to fly or breath underwater. The effort to craft and create these remarkable and insanely valuable gems is incredibly costly, however. Some stones require Regis to exercise an incredible amount of energy and will to the point where he will work non-stop for as long as 40 hours to complete one single stone.
Wealth & Financial state
Knowing the incredible demand for, and what it costs in material and effort to create his justly famous "Gabrix stones", many think Regis is one of the single richest living souls in the world. His actual wealth is known only to him, but he lives in a very modest home with his parents, his wife and her parents and her two brother's families, as well as his own 7 children and their wives/husbands and children. He dresses rather plainly, even for official events and meetings, and hasn't worn actual shoes in more than 140 years regardless of the weather.
