Marsonne Commandery Docks
The Docks at the Marsonne Commandery is a large, paved ramp leading to the river's edge some 60' long and nearly 30' deep. It allows the beaching of rivercraft for maintenance and repairs, and in the future the actual construction of entire hulls. The docks have excellent access to a natural channel in the riverbed that allows even large craft to land safely at the shore.
Facing the west, with the Commandery castle behind it and offering significant defensive cover in the event of attack, the docks are not actually "docks". The entire area is a paved ramp that extends some 15' into the river and allows the beaching of craft and boats for loading and offloading, maintenance and repairs. Blocking and wooden cradles allow hulls to be propped upright safely so keels and hull planking can be accessed.
Long neglected, the docks area has several large cottonwood trees that have grown up and block some of the view of the area and riverbank from the castle walls, but these trees are soon to be felled to open up the view for archers and crossbowman. Several sheds are under construction to provide shelter for workers and materials at the docks, as well as a small stone warehouse that will be located near the Commandery Smithy.
Purpose / Function
A well-designed but poorly maintained area for the landing of river craft. Rapidly being renovated and improved to accommodate ship construction as well as repairs.
Denizens
While no residences are currently located at the docks, it is the daily workplace of a crew of a dozen Halfling boatwrights led by Luc Lapine. Being within the outer walls of the Commandery castle, it is routinely patrolled and protected by the men-at-arms tasked with guarding the walls and grounds of the Commandery for the Order.
Alterations
After the removal of several very large trees that shade the area, several new sheds and a small stone warehouse will be constructed here to further improve the area's efficiency.
