Wood Elves are the most numerous of the three Elven sub-races. They live in the woods, forests, and mountains, in settlements that affect a rustic air, but are in fact just as rich and culturally advanced as the cities of Men. Many Wood Elves accept Grey Elf or High Elf overlords as their rulers. They are famed for their love of music, and they are superb musicians, even by Elven standards. Wood Elves are the breed most often referred to when a non-Elf speaks of "Elves."
Basic Information
Wood Elves are shorter than the other Elven sub-races, and slender of build. As expected, they do have pointy ears.
Additional Information
Wood Elves are predominantly found in deciduous and coniferous forests as well as mountainous regions.
Wood Elves are more intelligent than the average human and able to retain memories longer, which is certainly needed when being immortal.
Wood Elves can see on a star-lit or moonlit night as if it were full daylight. In conditions darker than that, they need a light source to see, and their vision extends to 50 feet with perfect vision and reasonably well out to 100 feet. In absolute darkness, however, they can see no better than Men.
Wood elves also have especially good hearing, even by Elven standards.
They cannot become sick or scarred and are virtually immune to disease. Wood Elves are also capable of traveling 16-20 hours a day.
Civilization and Culture
There aren't any defined naming traditions for the Wood Elves. Some choose to follow the tradition of their kin Grey and High Elves, while others choose to name their offspring inspired by the nature that is their habitat, while others still will choose to name their offspring mannish names (as a cruel joke to the silly mortals).
Wood Elves are monogamous for life (yes, this means forever).
Common-elvish is the tongue easiest for man to learn, and its the dialect most common among the Wood Elves. Some Wood Elves also know the language variants of their kin including Grey-Elvish and High-Elvish
Their preferred clothes are usually forest green, grey, or brown, and range from functional designs to fanciful expressions of individual creativity.
The culture of the Wood Elves is best characterized as unstructured and rustic by Elven standards, but rich and relatively advanced when compared to the ways of Men. They are independent, but many have settled in kingdoms ruled by the High Elves or Grey Elves. Still, all the Wood Elf folk enjoy a good journey or adventure and most look at life much as a game to be played. Music and trickery are their favorite pastimes. The Wood Elves are also masters of the wood and know much of wood-craft and wood-lore.
All Wood Elves hate Orcs and Dragons, whom they regard as their enemies since before The Severance. Wood Elves also dislike Dwarves and most choose to seclude themselves, for they have a less friendly history of relations with Men. Wood Elves enjoy their seclusion and they resent the intrusions of outsiders upon their Sylvan habitat.
