Civilised society shows how far it has evolved beyond the ways of animal behaviour
The rules of etiquette are all based around the principle of showing that you are more than just an animal, that you are a being of intelligence. Your every action should show this to yourself, to those around you and to the Icons. Unlike simple animals, you can:
Different levels of education and privilege will always mean that civility is expressed in different ways but the base principles are always maintained at all levels of society; and the plebeian, stationary and privileged alike would all be insulted to be called an animal. The better educated would be expected to use poetry for formal requests and invitations, be a patron of science and create order in society with their dealings. Even if you don't have access to higher education though, you would still expect to show your human intelligence with the use of money, which is an advanced form of trading; with the appreciation of storytelling, an advanced form of communication; and with things as simple - but important - as keeping your word. - Use that thought to calculate the wonders of science and maths
- Use the gift of emotion to participate in and create forms of art
- Make and honour deals and contracts
- Keep and be true to your word
