First World War Leosus Ring World

A very large war fought by several powers of the Leosus Ring World long before the formation of the Leosus Federation.

This is notable for being the first war fought by powers all over the ring. One of the larger nations was running out of coal, a very vital material of that tech level (the early industrial era). Almost directly next to them - though across an ocean - was another large, but smaller, nation with many coal deposits.

The slightly larger nation understood its economy was likely to collapse without a reliable coal source so they threatened and raided the other nation.

This led to an escalation of tensions, and later, war. Many nations around the ring declared war on one another, resulting in a massive worldwide war. However, the coal issue was not the only factor that led to war. That problem alone was realistically solvable through diplomacy and trade. Both nations have a long history of poor relations and claiming each other's territory.

Initially the slightly larger nation was at an advantage. They had the offensive first, but due to the nature of trench warfare neither side went very far.

However, due to the interference of the aquatic species such as Aquris they had to build trenches around the shore. The aquris could traverse the beaches between the ocean and land very quickly and easily. The togroid also got involved, who could theoretically simply burrow under a trench and attack enemies in the other side, so they also had to station a large number of soldiers and even forts behind their lines.

This continued to little success for 2 years. The stalemate was finally broken after one nation attacked the world superpower which was effectively sleeping at the time in a raid. They invented large armoured vehicles very dissimilar to tanks designed to cross trenches, armed with large weapons. The aggressor nations were destroyed and annexed into several defender nations, but many others of that ideology were elevated.
