Eclipse Cross
A very famous race track on Zanrilles, providing entertainment to the entire HF and a massive number of viewers.
Named after the weather pattern caused by other celestial objects and inducing darkness, the track has many features such as large hills, flats and high speed turns (with a wide turning circle). Due to the planet it's built on, eclipses can happen very often.
Over the years, the many racers who race on the track every year have become very experienced and often understand exactly when to steer and accelerate, so the standards are very high. The track is quite long.
Many different kinds of races are held, but there are usually high speed and performance race cars. Endurance races are held, involving hundreds of laps, as are regular, one lap races. Sometimes, races are held while the planet is eclipsed by Cyora. In these cases, all cars and corners are equipped with lights for navigation.
It is mostly the phelke who race here, but virtually all species of the HF can participate, given the conditions never become fatal. Even Yunkad and Sentient Robots are sometimes allowed to participate because the organics have optimised it so well. The area features a large viewing area where a large number of spectators can watch the race. Not all of the track is directly visible from this location, though much of it is so there are several very large screens used to show events across the entire track.
As a place of relative cultural importance, races can happen about once every 3 days on average; it is used very often. Though tourists often come to explore the track in person when not in use, race organisers must clean the track after each race and restore it to excellent conditions. Debris is often left after races, and the tracks should be cleansed from tire rubber (assuming wheeled cars were used in particular races).
