Caranae IV
4th planet in the Caranae System.
Caranae IV is perhaps the safest planet in the system to visit. It is relatively cold, but not to an extreme degree. It is desolate and largely inactive. Little happens here other than the occasional geological event such as volcanoes erupting, earthquakes.
There is the exception in the ground teams exploring the surface of the world in attempts to set up a base to place a large core drilling machine. This team has, despite the relative safety, not managed to find such a suitable location yet. The Hyperion Federation does not send starships to the Caranae system however, the ground team reached this planet due to a drone with a Teleporter reaching the surface.
Mostly comprised of rock and with little atmosphere, the various exploration teams sent to this world need large air tanks to breathe. As such, they built small rovers to help transport themselves across large distances and store a lot of air. Furthermore, the vast majority of the surface is taken up by large hills and often mountains, possibly due to interference from precursor archaeotech. Despite this, it is estimated that a suitable location would be found soon.
A suitable location would resemble a large, flat area with very few disturabances to the mining operation. Flat areas have been found several times but geological activity has been recorded in each. The exploration teams also have the necessary tools to begin establishing a mining platform, though to properly establish the mining operation, a much more heavy duty teleporter would be required. A lot of high value material has been detected in the core, such as gold and iridium. This material would be converted into matter plasma and used in Replicators to build a wide variety of high performance items.
Caranae IV is also extremely well defended from enemy attack due to the precursor defence stations nearby, which causes this planet to have a very high value. It does make it more difficult for the HF to deploy a massive amount of forces there though, in the event of an invasion.
