Binding Adhesive
Binding Adhesive is a unique type of chemical sometimes used by the Tranal Nomads to assist them to bind people on metal surfaces and prevent them from floating off into the Black of space.
Most commonly seen during EVA missions where a person has to leave the ship to perform work on the exterior, the binding allows someone to easily cling to the ship in question. However, the TN still has several other measures in place in case they fall away anyway, such as long cords that bind their harness to the ship, and the technology to launch rescue drones if someone does fall away. It is also used as a toy in some play grounds which are set in 0g conditions. People inside can swing on various objects using the Binding Adhesive. It is strong enough to support many activities and weak enough that one can easily unstick themselves from a surface. The Banfranal themselves do not normally partake because their tentacles make it very easy for them to move in the playgrounds anyway, but many other species sometimes play.
Other kinds of binding agents might be used for other purposes. It has a low tensile strength and will break if a significant force is placed on it (allowing people to unstick themselves), but it clumps to prevent it from breaking off and floating into space. The binding adhesive is sometimes used to seal various objects that are designed to be unsealed and resealed regularly, such as for the TN equivalent of backpacks which allow them to store items while remaining mobile. The TN has been known to use it as a replacement for some types of rubber, in some kinds of child friendly or reusable glue, to assist banfranal use their locomotion tentacles for manipulation and other random uses.
The binding adhesive takes up a mostly clear, but somewhat white colour which is apparently very consistent from the outside. Because of its fairly sticky nature, dirt can get stuck inside it which can make its stick strength weaker. It is sometimes cleaned by making use of its property where it binds to itself and can be easily cleaned by using this method.
The binding adhesive is likely not useful for most other civilizations because it was designed for 0g environments. Within a gravitational field, it is not likely to be strong enough to withstand most forces, so it is mostly a TN invention and product.
As the demand for this material is fairly low but consistent, it is manufactured in small amounts aboard most TN worldships. It is manufactured fairly cheaply in large vats using light materials that are relatively available from ice giant planets. The TN can harvest these materials using dedicated ships, but while within the territories of other factions they would trade for the materials instead.
