Personal history
Silmay was a Drusaderi mage who wanted to address the lack of physicality her people had on the battlefield. The Barbacks were simply to strong and their defenses against magic were getting better. In an attempt to keep Drusaderi from the front lines, she experimented with inanimate objects to create golems in a mountainous laboratory. She starting enchanting small rocks to move on command, but could only get them to move in one direction. She began using animals with a small degree of success. She found the animals to be similar to children which sparked an idea. She began fashioning golems of Drusaderi children, and infusing them with animal spirits. And in this way she succeeded, having a never ending force of fighters to keep the Barbacks at bay while they're picked off. The first few battles proved fruitful and the Drusaderi fully embraced this option.
Silmay's societal status skyrocketed, and her natural intelligence began piquing interest as well. She hit it off with one of her suitors and fell in love quickly, marrying shortly after. Then took a few months off from her work after becoming pregnant. Her husband took over in her absence. In that time the golems began showing unintended signs of consciousness. They didn't need to speak to show their distaste for Silmay's replacement. They'd grown attached to her and forced her husband out of the lab. For months they wouldn't let anyone in, and with production causing the Barbacks to gain ground. The leaders were started to let their displeasure known. When she heard of this she returned immediately, newborn in hand and husband in tow. The golems greeted her, their stone smiles now a bit unnerving, but otherwise normal behavior as usual. She never noticed them sneaking up behind her to snatch her child. The golems blocked her way as they showed her their surprise. They fashioned their own golem, which was a very accurate description of Silmay. And in a very crude way, they gestured that she was going to be their new mother or her baby was. Knowing refusal could end in her entire family's death, Silmay didn't put up a fight. She solemnly gave her husband a long hug, kissed her child goodbye, and gave him the go ahead to put her spirit into the golem. After he quickly escaped with his child and collapsed the entrance to trap them inside. Leaving the Windfire Brood to play with their mother.
