Eldritch Containment Association

Foundation

The Eldritch Containment Association (ECA) was formed by Antonia Lightbow after the creation of The Grand Coalition. The job of the Eldritch Containment Association is to rid Thera of the horrors piercing the veil and find ways to strengthen the veil. The HQ is located in Cherton but there are many training facilities and bases located across the world.

Procedure

The Eldritch Classification Guide

The Eldritch Classification Guide separates Eldritch Creatures into two categories: Lesser Horrors, and Greater Horrors. Lesser Horrors are identified by their tendency to "infest" old houses or abandoned buildings, and travel in groups. Lesser Horrors are then split off into two subcategories: Tiny Horrors and Smaller Horrors. Tiny Horrors are identified by their inability to telepathically speak, and the absence of an eldritch presence, (the eldritch trait that causes creatures to take psychic damage when the eldritch creature is being observed by sight.) They also have the innate ability to travel through solid objects by "walking" on the veil. Mostly harmless, but in groups can they overwhelm the regular adventurer. Smaller Horrors are identified by their ability to telepathically communicate in Eldritch not too far away, and the presence of an eldritch presence. They are the most common eldritch creatures and can be dangerous adventurers if found in a group. Greater horrors are identified by their ability to form pacts and also their level of intelligence. They are also split into two subcategories: Great Horrors and The Old Ones. Great Horrors can send telepathic messages across the veil and are identified by the fact that they are the only eldritch being with the ability to polymorph, and are the first "intelligent" eldritch being. The procedure for handling a great horror is to locate it by its eldritch presence and attempt to capture it. Sometimes a creature can make a sort of "pact" with a Great Horror in return for power. The Old Ones are thought to be the seven first eldritch creatures to exist. Only Allbazar has been spotted in Thera right before The Second Cascade so the only procedure is to settle down the local citizens from creating more hysteria and to stop the Old One from entering Thera at all costs. The Old Ones have been known to enter in some people's dreams and form pacts with certain people. The only way to identify one is by the overwhelming eldritch presence that causes eldritch sickness. The Eldritch Classification Guide also mentions Corrupted creatures, while technically not eldritch creatures are still under ECA jurisdiction. Corrupted creatures can be easily identified by their half-eldritch appearance, with one part appearing entirely normal. Most corrupted creatures are classified under smaller horrors, but some intelligent creatures are classified as great horrors. Common procedure for handling corrupted creatures is to either terminate it or, if intelligent, capture it.

Training

The basic training for the ECA is one of the toughest in the world due to the nature of eldritch beings. Before training, trainees must complete "brain exercises", a combination of tests that strengthens one's mind making it harder to break. The first thing taught to a trainee is Eldritch, though being just a language learning what it means can prevent eldritch beings from speaking into your mind and tearing it apart. Eldritch is taught by Telepathic. Eldritch. Dudes or TEDs, the process of learning the language is by a TED speaking it directly into your mind while also showing you pictures of what it means. Eldritch can not be directly translated into common but the meaning can be understood. This first part has almost killed many trainees. After learning Eldritch trainees are exposed to specially made images of eldritch creatures. While most images fail to even show an eldritch creature these photos not only show the creature but exude its eldritch presence. These images are shown to the trainees in order create a sort of fortitude, they are also used in tandem with the Presence Reduction Goggles to test trainees' reaction time. The Special Images are used only for training and research purposes. The final test that trainees are put through is combat training, this decides which branch of the ECA the trainee is placed into. Even those who failed the first two tests are allowed to take combat training. Basic combat training consist of: martial art training, spell casting training, and weapon training.

Branches

In the ECA, after basic training, rookies are sent into different branches based upon each ones' skills and capabilities. Each branch has a different situation they are deployed for, but under some circumstances multiple soldiers from different branches may be deployed at the same time.

Cleanup Crew

The cleanup crew is often considered the butt of every ECA joke, they did not make it through the basic training but still hold the basic fighting prowess necessary. Cleanup crew members are often compared to the rookies of the Monster Cleanup Agency only fighting the "weak" monsters. The cleanup crew is sent to deal with tiny horrors, since they have none of the common eldritch abilities, but are still considered pests. Cleanup crew members do not get any additional training but are supplied with Veil Walkers in order to chase the tiny horrors through walls.

Veil Research Team

The veil research team is one of the most important branches in the ECA as their job is to design the equipment everyone uses to handle eldritch creatures, locate where members need to be deployed, and research new ways to handle the veil along with the things that comes out of it. Members of the veil research team were the ones who passed the first two tests with flying colors but were not very capable in fighting prowess. The veil research team also designed the ECA HQ, the training facilities and are deployed to different cities to design new, eldritch resistant buildings for the ECA. Under certain occasions the work is outsourced to artificers or companies like Current Times. The additional training before joining the veil research team is a year of classes based upon the veil, eldritch monsters, and the history of the Aether.

Warlock Front

The warlock front is full of the most capable members of the ECA. To get into the warlock front trainees must first pass all the tests almost flawlessly, and then are taken into the headquarters where they keep great horrors specially contained to make pacts with them. These pacts grant the person unique powers that can make handling eldritch creatures a breeze, but only the most capable can make these pacts as weaker people can be completely controlled by the great horror. The warlock front is also the smallest branch of the ECA, only 100 strong, but most are placed in major cities or are specially deployed in critical situations.

Eldritch Guard

The eldritch guard is the largest branch of the ECA, as the requirement for getting in is just passing all of the basic training. Members of the eldritch guard are deployed against small horrors and great horrors based upon rank. There are three different "sects" to the eldritch guard, the weapon wielders, magic users, and those who use martial arts. Weapon wielders of the eldritch guard are supplied with special weapons that are strong against eldritch monsters, magic users are given magic items to protect against eldritch monsters, and martial art users are given Veil Walkers to assist in maneuvering. Each member of the eldritch guard is given a pair of Presence Reduction Goggles. While there is no mandated training for the eldritch guard there is still additional training available to help climb up the ranks and get stronger.

Corrupted Capture Group

The corrupted capture group is a specialized branch of the MCA that works in the containment and elimination of corrupted creatures. Corrupted creatures are often considered more dangerous than most eldritch creatures do to the fact that they are half monsters, still having physical prowess, while also having eldritch abilities. The corrupted capture group is deployed to areas that were effected by The Second Cascade as those locations tend to produce the most corrupted creatures. The members of the corrupted capture group receive additional training in handling different monsters and beasts.

Ranks

Within the branches of the ECA, members are ranked based upon their, capabilities, time spent in service, and leadership qualities. There are no ranks in the Veil Research Team, as they internally decide who gets which work to do, and the Warlock Front, as there is not much of a structure within the warlock front.

Footsoldier

Footsoldiers are the lowest ranked members of the ECA, often being rookies. They do not receive any special equipment except for that which the association gives out to the respective branch. Footsoldiers are commonly sent out on low to medium risk missions and usually climb up the ranks in the next five to eight months.

Knight

Knights are members of the ECA who have showed that they are quite capable within their field but do not gain any leadership position. Knights are often sent on the more difficult jobs within a branch. Upon being ranked a knight the member is gifted a Warding Pendant to assist on their missions. Knights are also given special access to ECA training facilities. There is no knight rank under the corrupted capture group as there are no high difficulty missions.

Captain

A captain is someone who has proven to the association that they are capable of giving out orders and protecting the people underneath their command. The duty of a captain is to give missions to knights and footsoldiers. The captain always goes on the mission their respective troop, so captains are split off into two categories; footsoldier captains, who are the weaker of the two and command footsoldiers on low to medium difficulty missions, and knight captains, who take knights on high level mission. Captains are given an Eldritch Detection Radar in order to more effectively give orders.

General

General is the highest leadership position in the branches of the ECA and is handpicked by the founder. There are only 3 generals; one for the cleanup crew, one for the eldritch guard and one for the corrupted capture group. Each general oversees the branch, making sure everyone gets the proper training and personally handling any major disputes. Generals each are given specialized equipment that enhance their combat prowess.
