Cogwell

Founding

Cogwell was originally founded by the Cog family. Who came to the area trying to make a profit off of the land by farming. The area was perfectly positioned next to a river and near enough a trade hub to be a short travel but far enough not to be a target for bandits. The location became a small hamlet when the local trade hub was destroyed by a group of bandits, displacing the people who lived there. A few people set up a camp near the Cog family farm so, Edward Cog, owner of the Cog farm, decided he would hire them, not to work on the farm, but to build a town around the farm to attract business. Thus Cogwell was formed from a farm into a small settlement.

Troubles in Town

After becoming a settlement Cogwell became a target for the local bandit gang. While containing a small population the people of Cogwell were not to be underestimated, most people moved there after being forced out of their homes and did not feel inclined to lose their new home. So the residents formed the towns' first guard force in order to protect the town. The guard was successful up until The Second Cascade, which caused a whole new set of problems; powerful monsters went through the local area, bandits now had more powerful magics, and eldritch beings would infest local housing. These problems persisted causing some people to move away but others saw it as an opportunity to develop the city and Cogwell became exposed to innovation.

Rapid Growth

Starting in the year 2019 Cogwell became known for the technology it produces and the magical items designed there. Many famous artificers got their start in Cogwell but eventually moved on to bigger towns to find a place to make a name for themselves.  Some of the most well known inventions created in Cogwell are; the Cog, named after the town founder, the telegram, & steam powered engines. The growth skyrocketed after the year 2051 when elven nobles who've heard of the town moved in, reviving the town's economy and assisting in the growth of a business called Current Times. Tide Current, the founder of Current Times , created the first arcane peashooter and did work for the nobles. His two sons. Alan and David Current were both talented artificers who worked together to grow the company and turned Cogwell into the world giant it is today.
