Skorvald and Yaquisa

Where is Yaquisa?

Just north of Themif the Iceheart and right up next to the Deathwall in the farthest north, Yaquisa is famed as a place where nobody dies. Ever. No matter what. Despite constant efforts. It's one of the northernmost theomes in the Cortacaffakallyenay & Nyberinz region cluster.

How is Yaquisa classified?

There are great arguments over how Yaquisa should be classified. It is an ugly fated battleground that turns people against each other, where the land god expects people to glory in killing each other and make friends again thereafter. Some geomancers argue that the lack of death makes it Benevolent by definition. Others argue that the bad Fate management and high trauma burden should justify a Hostile classification on its own, despite a lack of death. Compromise-seekers have proposed Negotiable, pointing out that the psychological aspects of Yaquisa are similar to Fate-manipulations which occur in the more frightening Mystic theomes. Any of these may be the truth, so any of them may show up in texts that describe Geomantic Classifications for theomes. Some of them even say "Contested" and use a paragraph like this one instead of listing a normal answer.

What kind of economy and population does Yaquisa have?

Warriors and necromancers are drawn to Yaquisa by the theome's dream beacon, even though it is beyond the end of the major northern caravans.

Necromancers are by far the majority of the population in Yaquisa. The deathward and the abundant necromantic energies keep them alive as they study their art and learn to keep themselves "alive" indefinitely. The rate of lost apprentices (a real issue in most necromantic academies) is proudly zero here. There is a great necromantic city here despite the total lack of corpse-matter in the theome, and they have some of the greatest healers on Theoma, for Skorvald's blessing has let them practice fearlessly, without crushing their geomantic interface through the workings of necromancy. Skorvald will not let them die as a consequence of their practices! Well, at least, he won't let them STAY dead. He's constantly putting dead necromancers back together, and he encourages them to test their limits.

Warriors are a small but growing population in Yaquisa. They call it 'the Everwar', and they organize great battles against each other without any limits. They kill each other again and again, being reborn by Skorvald's efforts day after day. Normal causes of war have no place here where war across the theome is but a game. There is a small "warbase" where an informal truce holds most of the time, though the death rate is still high as honor duels have replaced most normal rudenesses.

Occasional conflicts between the warbase and the necromantic city have mostly favored the larger, more arcane population of necromancers, though Skorvald has warned that if the necromancers ever become too involuted, they may eventually be driven out of Yaquisa by inquisitor-warriors acting against necromantic power in a place where they need never fear dying to it. He organizes occasional necromancer hunts himself, and seems to be a great fan of the rivalry between the warriors and the necromancers of Yaquisa. It's necromancers versus warriors, and the necromancers have no dead to animate in the conflict!

What is Skorvald like?

He likes violence, he likes everyone, and he likes killing people who he likes. He likes people at each others' throats literally, though not metaphorically. He doesn't like conventional hatreds one bit. He likes resurrecting people, and he does it all the time. He encourages people to die as much as possible so he can resurrect them more. If he ever liked a pacifist, it must have been because that pacifist loved so many things that could kill them, that Skorvald was resurrecting them all the time. If there ever arises a peaceful settlement in Yaquisa, it'll be because people realize that Skorvald would enjoy a peaceful population of people taking weird overdoses of recreational substances... but oh, it won't happen. The first of those people won't immigrate, because Skorvald is dreaming of a warzone forever.

[h2[What is the Fate Beacon that Skorvald is maintaining over Yaquisa?

The extreme pressures that Yaquisa places on the bodies of those who venture there are matched by Skorvald's extreme dedication to the deathlessness that is the promise of Theoma. As such, the beacon over Yaquisa is a "Healing" beacon which exports some of Skorvald's healing aptitude to every theome in Theoma.
