Of all the nations of the Material plane,
Necrotus has some of the most interesting traditions, especially surrounding celebrations such as birthdays. For most Necrotian birthdays, there is much feasting and celebration, with a traditional drop of vinegar being added to every meal of the day, but when the aging person turns certain ages: 15 and 80, there are special ceremonies that are undertaken.
The Reckoning of 15
When a young Necrotian turns 15, they are considered an adult in society. To show this transition from childhood to adulthood, the young person, depending on their necromantic capabilities, must undertake a test of strength. If the youth has no magical capabilities whatsoever, they must go into the wilderness and bring back the corpse of an Animaterial that they have slain. If the youth has slight magical capabilities, they must raise themselves an undead companion from the bones of a small animal. In most cases, this undead animal companion stays with the youth for the rest of their life. If the youth has a promising and powerful amount of necromantic capabilities, they must journey to the tainted woods of Undarin and survive in the woods alone for 6 days. If they emerge, they will become the apprentice of a powerful and renowned Necrotian necromancer.
The Wizened of 80
When a Necrotian turns 80, they are considered and wise and devoted elder of society. For this reason, their 80 birthday is an 8-day long celebration of everything that that individual has done, and each day rewinds back to the appropriate decade of their life. For this reason, someone 80th birthday is a spectacle and feast that nearly everyone from a town will come to see. Furthermore, if the recipient of the birthday is a powerful or influential person, people will come from miles around to share in the feasting and celebration.
