Valon

The capital of the kingdom of Valonde and largest of the great cities, Valon is the heart and soul of Valonde.

Government

Being the Capital, Valon is officially run by the king and his family. Unofficially it is run by a council much like the other cities however the ruling family and Valerien Val Arya can and do attend the meetings and have the most say.

Infrastructure

At the heart of the Kingdom of Valonde sits the capital city, Valon The City has 8 different Districts, each with its own dedicated guards and guard captain   The Dusk District - Called the Dust District, Dirt District or Dirk District by the locals. The Dusk District it the southernmost region of the capital. This district is a seedy area filled with brothels, fighting pits, casinoes and the rumored home of the Phantom Market, a market in which anything can be bought or sold if there is enough coin. The guards within this district are known as the Dusk Guards. Their reputation ranges from corrupt to tough as anvils to almost authoritarian depending on who you ask.   The Canal District - Called the Flood District by some of the locals, the Canal District is the northeastern district of the capital and borders Clearwater Lake. Many fisherman and shipping companies call this district home. During the Flooding year, many of the streets in the Canal District become canals and the maelstrom sea reaches into the lake, allowing for ships to sail into the capital. The special roads and foundations of the Canal district were designed by the Goblin's Republic of Virasia as a gift and a means to strengthen their political ties. The guards are called the Canal Guards and are also in charge of maintaining the bridges and special roads within the Canal District. The majority of the Canal Guards are goblins that hail from the Republic.   The Aqueduct District - Also known as the Aqua District by the locals. Is just south of the Canal District and North of the Dusk District. Here the sewers that run beneath the whole city can be accessed. Sewage is also treated so that the lake does not become polluted. In addition to the sewers, the aqueducts that provide water to the rest of the city are found here. This is the only district that the underground aqueducts can be accessed and where the above-ground ones begin. The majority of the above-ground aqueducts originally existed before the founding of Valon and are often a point of fascination for historians. The above-ground aqueducts circle the city above the buildings in a series of loops that all start and end in this district. The path of the underground aqueducts is a closely guarded secret. The guards in this district are known as the Aqua Guard and are also charged with protecting the aqueducts and keeping the sewers from becoming overrun with monsters and pests.   The Foundry District - This district is the western district of the capital. This district is where the majority of the standard weapons and armor of the kingdom's military, knights, and guards are made. In addition to the kingdom's forges here, there are also dozens of private workshops and forges where customers can commission items or have things repaired. It is common practice for many of these private workshops and forges to make retainer contracts with groups and individuals to secure business from competitors. Many of the buildings in this district have windmills or similar contraptions that disperses the smoke in the air and helps the workshops. The Guards in this district are known as Forge Guards and often deal with protecting shipments of supplies to the various workshops and settling disputes between smiths.   The Academy District - The Academy District is by far the smallest district in the city but by no means any less important. Found just north of the Foundry District, the Academy District is primarily the campus of the Academy of Swords and the surrounding blocks and buildings owned by the Academy. The Guards within this district are known as the Academy Guard. In addition to their guard duties, they are also responsible for assisting the school with training and at times are recruited for things such as fighting tournaments and Human Chess Tournaments. Despite its size the various buildings and events held by the Academy draw in large numbers of people.   The Grand District - Found within the northern region of the capital is the Grand District, referred to by some as the Royal or Noble District. This district is where most of the capital's Nobles and Royals live. You can also find businesses that exclusively cater to the rich such as the best artisans, finest inns, and the most impressive forms of entertainment. Due to the status associated with owning a house in the Grand District, and by a house I mean mansion, it is not uncommon for Nobles and Royals within the other cities to have their own property there just for the sake of having it or for when they are in the capital. The guards here are known as Grand Guard.   The Central District - At the heart of the capital lies the Central District. Here you can find the castle of the Val Arya family, the various government buildings, guard barracks, embassies, and the Hall of Valor. Given the importance of the buildings within the district, there are no residences or businesses with the exception of the Val Arya's castle. The only guards here are the Royal Guards.   The Trade district - Better known by the locals as the Crossroads, the trade district isn't a section of the city like the other districts but rather a huge street that circles through the city. All major markets can be reached from the Trade District. Additionally from the Trade District, you can find the roads that lead to nearly every important building and the parks in the capital much to the delight of those unfamiliar with the city. Most of the middle range inns and most of the restaurants can be found in this district. The guards of this district are known as the Trade Guards and often have to deal with rowdy visitors and business disputes in addition to their normal duties.
