Runic Golems

Relics of the Past

When in the most ancient ruins of the world, one may stumble upon these great and magnificent machines, they are constructions of clay and magic, sometimes carved from stone. The technology of how to make these golems has long since been lost to history, but those that had been made in the past still survive to this day.

Beings of Ages Past

Nearly all of these golems originate from the bronze age, the youngest are from the late bronze age. The knowledge of how to make these magical constructions was slowly lost over time, and those found it Dreyech ruins were but small metal creatures, used for simple tasks. The eldest golems are grand statues carved from stone, they hail from the Stone Age. They can be found in the mountains, their massive figures still guard the ruins of what would once have been grand centers of civilization but are now forgotten. Some of them have lost their mobility over time, making them nearly indistinguishable from mundane statues, but their magic has kept them otherwise well-maintained.

Runes

These golems operate on runic magic. Runes are the language of the divine, and their written script is capable of bringing life to even the grandest of constructions, given enough mana. However, the way these runes are made, and what they mean, has been lost to time. There isn't a single rune that makes a golem work, there are many that improve their functionality, and mobility. As history shows, the knowledge of their meaning slowly faded over time. As ruins get younger, the golems that are found there become smaller and simpler.

Hazardous Tombs

They protect the graves of ancient empires, and they are not only dangerous because of their incredible strength, and instinct to defend, but also because no mage alive now knows how to disarm them. In order to deactivate a runic system, one needs to have intimate knowledge of the runes used in its creation, lacking this information, they become eternal warriors, as immortal as the rock from which they were carved.

Materials

Most golems were made from stone, they are the biggest and oldest of the runic golems, but the more nimble and agile ones were shaped from clay. The most modern ones were constructed from bronze plates they were the smallest, but in their prime, they were the most flexible in use, however, the lastest ones that were found were very basic in their application.
