Sands and Mountains
The Baskth are the men of the mountains, where they feel most at home, most of their land is arid, alternating between plains and deserts, and hills, flatlands towards the coast, and mountains further inland.
Kingdom
Baskythenia is a federal kingdom, with a high king uniting their policies, but each kingdom reserves many rights to autonomy and self-governance.
Because their home region is so massive and diverse, there are many cultural differences between them, making it more difficult to rule them as a single entity, which is why this confederate system works best for them.
This collection of kingdoms is united by a supreme confederate government which is ruled by a high king, a title which is rotated between member states every ten years.
The states are mostly independent, and the central government, led by the current high king, is merely for the sake of foreign affairs and to form a unified front against outsiders, although the high king isn't allowed to perform any action without the approval of the kings senate.
Their lands are so vast and lightly populated that wars between them are extremely uncommon, although not completely unheard of, most of their military conflicts are with foreign powers, particularly the Nalsai
Provinces
The Provinces of Baskythenia are divided into several groups, based on environment and culture.
Central Baskythenia lies along the coast, a region of flat and hilly land nestled between the inner mountains and the sea. It includes the nations of Soltherikiae, Muraenak, Mologath, Ganthak, and Uthkantar.
Upper Baskythenia forms the highlands, situated between the inner and outer mountain ranges. This area, marked by salt lakes of many sizes, formed in basins along the inner mountains, is considered the heart of Baskythenian culture and civilization. It is here that most of the religious centers are found. The nations of Sumaetheri, Brunaetak, Quadriith, Kmaelia, and Brendaeketh make up this core region.
Eastern Baskythenia stretches to the south and east, where the air is more humid and rainfall more abundant, covering the lands with lush pine forests. Winters here are harsh and snowy. Geographically and culturally isolated, Eastern Baskythenia enjoys greater autonomy than other regions. It includes the nations of Ustakh and Asamakh. Uthkantar is sometimes associated with the East, though its culture aligns more closely with Central Baskythenia.
Northern Baskythenia is the nation’s warmest and wettest region, characterized by mild winters, hot summers, and abundant rain. Its lush and fertile landscape supports a distinct cultural identity, separate from the drier regions to the south. This region includes Jaelikan and Goraekan. Historically, it also included the island nation of Suthrekenia until it was conquered by the Enyanians. The colonial wars, sparked by invasions of Goraekan, led to treaties that remain contentious, as violations persist and the future of the region remains uncertain.
