Gaia

The Goddess of Life

Gaia is the mistress of the forests, plants, and animals. She is in charge of keeping all biological functions active and is associated with healing, fertility, growth, and agriculture. She is the one you pray to for your crops to grow big and strong, and the one to pray to when you struggle to conceive a child. She is the healer and the life-giver, which makes her one of the more popular goddesses. Another name for her might be the All-Mother since she is thought to have given birth to all life on Earth.

Temples

Her temples are primarily inhabited by women. They are places of healing and silent prayer. These temples can often be found in locations where nature is strongest. They are never very large and usually consist of a main building, with a round inner square without a roof, and a living section for the priestesses. Not all these sisters live there permanently, though, since Gaia's women are still allowed to have a husband, and many spend their nights and weekends with their spouse. However, they are expected to be present for the morning prayers.   These temples are headed by a priestess, named the arch priestess, also called the Holy Mother, and all the other priestesses are generally referred to as sisters. Joining one of these temples isn't the easiest because all members have to be invited, and then they still have to complete an entrance trial to prove their dedication to Gaia. Such a ritual involves secluded prayer and meditation, bare and in nature, surrounded only by full sisters who guide you in the process, as well as other more secretive trials unknown to outsiders. Once these trials are completed, you become an apprentice sister and are taught the ways of temple life.
