The Saints

The saints are the focal figures of the mainly human religion, the Way of the Saints, and currently serve as judges, guides, and rulers in the afterlife. They gained their power by defeating the gods and locking them in hell after they became neglectful and abusive of their creation. Their writings do not indicate their species (whether it was one or many), or even their names, and anything regarding such specifics is considered heretical.

Appearance and Powers

A common folk perception is that the saints were half again as tall as humans, and possessed of an unearthly, sometimes unsettling beauty. While they are not all thought to have the same powers, they are all believed to be stronger than humans and anywhere from merely more hardy than humans to nearly invulnerable to injury and illness. They are also considered to have an essentially saintlike magic, although interpretations on what that means differ. Some argue they could not have overthrown the gods if all they had were human abilities and limitations. Each of the saints are often held to have individual powers as well, sometimes due to objects they have, like the Saint's Gauntlet.

Stories

According to some, saint Gih was the first saint, becoming imbued with his saintly powers and leading the others in the fight against the gods. One version of this story is told in The Peace of Saint Gih. In another story, told in the region around Evinad, a saint lost a pair of gauntlets on his way to heaven, gauntlets which granted their wearer invulnerability and powerful magic. One is considered lost forever, while the other is considered to be somewhere in the created world, but unlikely to ever be found.
