The Gods

Note: The Way of the Saints considers any specific teachings about the gods beyond the history of their defeat by the saints to be occult and therefore forbidden. Proceed with caution.

The creators of the world, who originally resided in heaven. They ruled the created world until their defeat by the saints and subsequent imprisonment in hell, and are the deities of the religion that preceded the Way of the Saints.

Personalities and Motivation

According to the Way of the Saints

They eventually became neglectful and sadistic, requiring the saints to rise up against them in order to free the created world from the suffering they inflicted on it. Because of this, they are held up as the epitome of evil, the example of all one should never be in life. It is said the gods currently try to rule over hell the way they did the created world, but that they long most of all to escape hell and return to power.

According to Their Worshippers

The gods are the most powerful beings in all existence and their imprisonment was a fluke, possible only due to some sort of betrayal or underhandedness on the part of the saints. They reward their faithful servants with great power, both magical and nonmagical, and will give knowledge to any who seek it. In fact, when they ruled, magic was more widespread and people were capable of feats greater than any today. To free them and return them to their rightful place would mean a renewal of magic the likes of which has not been seen since the saints trapped the gods and destroyed all record of them and their practises.
