Personal history

Mark was born to Beth Cross and Raishin Kestrel in Roseland where he spent almost a decade of his childhood with his father and mother. His mother and father’s marriage was arranged marriage and an unhappy one. As a child, Mark loved his father and looked up to his father much of his mother’s dismay. His father, Raishin was an extreme follower of The Idealists and bringing him to rallies at a young age. Her mother, Beth did not like this since she never wanted Mark to get involved with the cult and wanted to raise him as a normal child. Mark slowly watched his mother and father’s relationship detonated as he saw his mother having an affair with his uncle, Cain and raising a secret family away from his father. One day, Beth took Mark away as she started to disagree with the Idealists and feared for her children’s safety. With the help from the outside and Mark’s aunt’s Michelle, Beth was able to successfully leave with all her children to Clare Point View to hide away from Raishin and the Idealists. This led to Mark resenting his mother for taking him away from the life he knew. Mark’s relationship with his half-siblings is mixed as he hated them for a simple reason that he believed that they were the reason his life was ruined. He only got along with Olive since she often wanted to be friendly with Mark. Learning from his father, he manipulated Olive into doing things he wanted such as bullying their younger brother, Darren. However, Darren and Mark never liked each other since Mark was jealous of Darren’s high potential to be better than him at magic, as well as Darren’s uncanny resemblance to his uncle, Cain which Mark considers Cain as the man who ruined his life. He was also the person responsible for Darren’s lack of magic control since he secretly put a forbidden curse on his youngest brother from the time Darren was 4. Mark often bullied his brother getting other mages and witches children to bully him and hurl insults at him dragging Darren’s self-esteem down. Mark always seized an opportunity to backhand compliment Darren and side insults him in the private. Mark is heavily more reliant on using magic since it often helps him boost his social capital though it was against household rules to be using magic outside the home. He was also relieved that his mother left the family because it meant he could get away with doing more things with magic.
When he was 14, he was accepted in the Huffington Performing Arts High where he got in the school by using his magic to fool people in thinking he was talented with music and his voice. This led to him to become one of many famous alumni from the Huffington Performing Arts High. As he left the home at 18, he also ended up having a career in the entertainment industry after he graduated where he is loved by many still able to maintain keeping his magic a secret. Mark also changed his name back from Cross to Kestral when he left home. He was reunited with his father where he offered him help with anything he needed since Rainshin had allies in The Idealists secretly in the industry that would protect him. This period is where Mark met his former girlfriend, Topanga Crowley who has been his biggest fan and often wrote him songs for his albums as she became his main songwriter. The relationship ended when Topanga saw through how fake and untalented Mark was. However, Mark’s influence manipulated the media and his fans to attack Topanga where he referred her a “crazy fangirl who was jealous of him” and wanted the attention as she hated his fans. This move almost ruined his former girlfriend ’s reputation. With loyalty to The Idealists and his fans, Mark considers himself to be untouchable which is why he continues to support The Idealists. They helped Mark make people “disappear” if they ever come close to revealing his true nature.
In the TSWH series, Mark is a secondary antagonist who often a recruiter to lure young aspiring Supernaturals artists who enter the entertainment industry into the cult, The Idealists/The Rise of the Light He is often behind the reason his brother, Darren’s band is often getting gigs due to his celebrity influence. It was also another way to get his younger brother, Darren to join The Idealists/The Rise of the Light and get his family bronze amulet that Darren owns.
