Brightwater Settlement in The World of Popkin | World Anvil

Brightwater

Arborea's first layer (the only one of any relevance to most people) is essentially an infinite plane of wild nature, but it's largely divided in half by the two major pantheons that share it. On one side, there's a realm called Arvandor, which is the elven heaven, home of the Seldarine. The other half of Arborea is called Mount Olympus, and is where all the gods of the Greco-Roman pantheons dwell.

Brightwater is the one large settlement that's situated between those two halves; not part of either, it serves as a crossroads. A few other Chaotic Good gods make their realms there, who aren't part of the elven or Olympian pantheons.

  • The Great Wheel Quarter is the realm of Tymora, a human goddess of luck, trade, and fortune.
  • The largest district of Brightwater, the Great Wheel Quarter comprises the quadrant between the Seldarine Way and Ossa Road, as well as a large central bazaar surrounding the center of the city. The major roads of the district radiate outward from the central crossroads like the spokes of a wheel.
  • The Great Wheel is home to all manner of gambling, betting, and speculation. Racetracks, coliseums, casinos, and arcades abound. Any games of chance or skill can be found, played, and wagered upon here.
  • The high priestess of Tymora, a halfling named Winifred, is often considered the social leader of all Brightwater.
  • The Quarter of Orange Lanterns, between the Ossa Road and the Sensates' Way, is essentially a huge, eternal music festival. Although it is clearly a divine realm, the precise identity of its patron is somewhat ambiguous; it is generally considered to be connected to the Draconic deity Hlal.
  • Rapture, located between the Sensates' Way and Olympos Road, is darker – both metaphorically and literally. Rapture is the domain of Bast, goddess of cats and hedonism.
  • Rapture is a claustrophobic maze of alleys, passages, and holes in the wall, overshadowed by a surprisingly thick canopy of trees (which always seem to be growing from an unseen courtyard the next block over).
  • For almost any type of indulgence, even those considered highly taboo or harmful elsewhere, there is an establishment somewhere in Rapture that caters to it fully consensually. The pleasures that can be found here are not always without danger, but any harm that results from one's choices will only redound upon oneself, and generally in a way that leads to edification and growth.
  • For example, one can freely indulge in the hardest narcotics here, even to the point of overdose; however, instead of spiraling into a cycle of addiction, it is more likely that the experience would lead to a better understanding of one's limits and more control over one's motivations.
  • The only creatures who may be in actual, existential danger in Rapture are small rodents and birds, or beings of a similar size and manner, such as pixies and sprites. This is due to the thousands upon thousands of [Cats]  who call the district home.
  • The Heartfire Quarter, located between the Olympos Road and Seldarine Way, is the realm of Beb, a Human goddess of love, beauty, and romance.
  • The district is home to a beautiful, sprawling park, and picturesque cobblestone streets lined with matchmakers' shops, galleries, cafés, and private, secluded spots. This quarter is also not without risks, and many a couple has wandered into the maze of streets with eyes only for one another, and never found their way out again.
  • The Heartfire Quarter is one of the locations on Arborea where the mythical fountain known as the Evergold can sometimes be found.
