The Zarthanian League
The League
The Zarthanians hail from the planet Zarthan, and from there they spread across the Gap of Zarthan, named after their planet. They have since become a diverse and populous race, despite the challenges of living in a gap of relatively empty space.
Government
The league is a monarchy, led by an emperor, the supreme ruler of all Zarthanians, who rules the league with the help of a parliament. The federal government is in charge of but a few things, federal law, and the army, because the league is a federal system, and a rather decentralized one at that. This is because of the long travel times between planets, making it harder to rule everything centrally.
The States
The League is divided into states, and each state has a prime world, the world which was settled first, and is now the most populous, and probably the most friendly to zarthanian life.
The states are mostly ruled by Constitutional monarchies, but there are three republics, which have a long time ago abolished their monarchies.
The states are allowed to rule their nation in whatever way they see fit, as long as they obey federal law.
Monarchy
Kings and Queens play an important role in Zarthanian society, they are symbols of power, and they are very influential politically and culturally, which is why the three non-monarchies are seen by the rest of the league as uncultured and backwards states.
Still, each state has the right to choose how they are governed, and who represent them in the state council.
State Council
The federal government may rule the league, but they are not a supreme power, they come up with new federal laws, sure, but in order for those laws to be passed, they have to be approved by at least three quarters of the state council.
Most of the sitters of the council are the kings or queens of the states, but the republican states send their presidents or prime ministers instead.
Culture
Zarthanians are a strong and proud people, they have long stood strong as the only ones being able to repel the vile powers of the galaxy. They were able to remain outside of the empire for its entire existence, despite the Rayths many attempts to subjugate them.
This is also why they are notoriously isolationist, preferring to stay on their own, rather than associate with foreign powers. They have been able to do this because they have always had a homefield advantage, because their ships are faster than others, meaning they could always outmaneuver their enemies.
To this day, they are hesitant to enter agreements with foreign powers, especially when that means giving them powers, still, they have accepted they if they don't, they will become subjects to Ekov's wrath, because this threat makes previous ones pale in comparison.
There are those among them, however, that refuse this, they believe that tales of Ekovs power are nothing but groos exaturation, this stems from the Zarthania culture of xenophobia, they remain a largely homogenous society, and therefore, this xenophobia has been allowed to flourish.

The Zarthanina flag is a yellow banner with a red sun in the middle, which represents the League, and the emperor, the 34 stars around it represent the 34 prime worlds, including Zarthan. The red color represents the blood sweat and tears of the Zarthanian people.
