Forms of Life

There are several different ways a being can be alive, these categorizations are useful for administrations, the application of laws, and medical treatment

Carbon-Based Lifeforms

This is by far the vast majority of life in the galaxy, to such an extent that it doesn't need to specify if you belong to this type. These creatures are defined by the laws of life, and have generally evolved over millions of years.

Silicon-Based Lifeforms

These are much rarer than carbon-based lifeforms, they use silicon as the primary building block of their DNA structure and bodily functions. Most of these are small single single-celled life forms, but some larger beings have developed from this.

Cyborgs

A person may undergo cybernetic enhancement without being considered a cyborg. A cyborg is a life form that has replaced a significant part of their body, with machinery. The hallmark definition of a cyborg is one who has had vital organs replaced, but this is not always required.

Androids

Android are artificial life forms, they are considered sentient and they have rights under law. What defines an android is the ability to think, the ability to feel, the ability to learn, and the ability to be creative, more specifically, to create unique ideas.

Most androids are shaped like the species that created them, but the earlier ones were so large that this was impossible.

The main issue with creating true androids is the sheer size of their brain. Even using the most compact computers, the brain of an android is very large. This is why currently most androids use Kukai as the storage device for their brain they are much more compact, and the grey ones, in the shape of tetrahedra, are able to have their contents edited, allowing for the android to learn, grow, and to have complex memories.

Droids

Droids are standard robots, they are generally not sentient and they are not considered alive. Some may have very intricate and well-developed circuits, allowing them to think and be nearly sentient, but none of them can truly feel or make decisions independently from their programming.

However, some droids do have what would be called a personality, this has been noted by many. This has led some to conclude that they are alive, however, in reality, it is merely a quirk of their programming, as well as the fact that many AI are designed to be fun and engaging to interact with.
