Kingdom of Silerith - [LG]

The kingdom was founded by a wandering knight who picked the city location based off of a divine vision they had from their patron god Tyr. It was there where the capitol city of Aramoor was built.

Structure

The government used to be a pure monarchy until there was an uprising against a particularly unworthy king which caused the government to be rearranged the way it is now.   The king holds executive power for making executive decisions, the Knightly Order of Tyr - [LG] has judiciary power for overseeing justice in the kingdom, and parliament holds legislative power for creating and passing law.   Once a month there is a Royal Council consisting of: The King, The Eldest Prince (if there is one), The Grand Protector, The High Sage, The Royal Treasurer, and the Speaker (of parliament).   If there is need to anoint a new king and no heir exists or is found fit by parliament then parliament elects a new king from one of the Knight Commanders.

History

They say the knight came from the wilds or possibly was a metallic dragon weary of their travels but many believe the knight was a defector from the Reinhart Union - [LN].   However the story goes the kingdom drew many looking for a different banner and the knightly tenants for which the kingdom stands resonated with many good folk of all races. Soon the kingdom had to expand to two towns, then five as the numbers multiplied but there was more than enough land for all.The kingdom had their first real test against a particularly nasty brood of goblins known as The Nightsnapper Pack. These goblins lead many raiding parties on the growing villages of the kingdom prompting the king to anoint the first knights to ride out and root the foul vermin from their holds in the forests and hills and force them back into the mountain wilds.   It was around that time the Kingdom discovered the Elven city of Mevelion belonging to the Holy Cities of Corellon - [CG]. The elves were cautious at first but soon warmed after judging the nature of the Kingdom to be holy and good at it's heart. The Elven city told of places far and wide the Kingdom had never seen and shared their knowledge of magic and the history of the Silver Sages. The Kingdom sent some of it's own gifted to train at the Great Library of Azuth discovering rich veins of Iron in the highlands there shortly after.   The Kingdom's first encounters with the Reinhart Union were mostly peaceful and even lent themselves to some healthy trade routes being established after some time. But the Union was a hungry nation with only a lust for more. It was when the Union discovered that the Kingdom had claimed a set of iron rich hills for the King that the Union sent an attack force to test their might. The workforce at the mines had only minor protection and were easily captured. Those that ran were slain. The Kingdom didn't find out about the attack for several days and after sending a peace envoy to the Union unsuccessfully the King did what he felt he must do. Avenge the fallen.   The subsequent attacks from both sides embroiled the whole continent in war. The War. The Union allied themselves with the Dwarven Kingdom of Brisingr - [NG] supposedly for a split of the resource rich lands. The Kingdom allied themselves with the Holy Cities of Corellon - [CG] who the Kingdom was always friendly with.   Several battles of note took place but they are not detailed here; however, the Kingdom's accounts of The Last Battle are as follows. After months on a front entrenched near Fort Withall the Union launched an early morning surprise attack on the Kingdom but the Kingdom was used to the Union's tricks and had left the tents and trenches unmanned and instead trapped them with spears, pit falls, and spells. The Knight's cavalry moved in from the side as the Union fell into the deception but a surprise attack wasn't the only evil scheme afoot. The Union had a weapon.   It was a magic item of immense power which when activated shown like the sun and cast rays of vaporizing wild fire across the land scorching and then ripping apart anything its rays contacted. After the short devistating burst the item shattered into oblivion leaving behind what we call The Scarred Lands.   Tyr be praised we moved our troops anticipating the morning raid for the casualties were a third what they were for the Union. Still the loss of life was almost too much to bear. We managed a quick surrender from the Union and shortly thereafter signed the Treaty of Innsmouth. Relationships are still rebuilding and trust may never be fully regained but both nations are starting to prosper from renewed trade once more.   It is because of this mistrust that the tower of Darkwell was built. Construction had began before the end of the war but with it finished the Kingdom always has this post manned.
