Tanspovania

“The problem with being a ‘Breadbasket’ of anywhere is all the hands reaching in for a slice.” –Ciro Lilic, Transpovanic statesman

Transpovanic Federation

Structure

While Transpovania puts on the face of a functioning democracy under the rule of a parliament, known as the Popular Council, the party lines are divided purely along ethnic lines, with the Transpovanic people making up the majority of seats in parliament.

Culture

Transpovania is a more metropolitan nation than other Pilic states, having much larger minorities of other Pilic peoples, but like the others has still struggled with severe ethnic divide and has had issues of state-sponsored ethnic cleansing in the past.

History

• 750–795 – Economic depression affects the entire region, raising ethnic tensions to an all-time high as different ethnic groups are blamed for the hardship. To the present day, these tensions have not dissipated. The event is known as the Depression of 750.   • 800-815 – War between Transpovania and The Kingdom of Wosternak breaks out over disputed lands.   • 815 – Transpovania and Wosternak sign a ceasefire to the inconclusive conflict.   • 828 – The Transpovanic Royal Family is forced to abdicate power to the Popular Council, but are allowed to remain as figureheads.   • 857 – Polsawic forces are accused of raiding farms and trade routes in southern Transpovania, but deny the accusations. The raids subside shortly thereafter.   • 909 – A quick ceasefire is issued between Rowic and Transpovania after a month of border skirmishes.   • 949 – Prince Viktor Plizny II, heir to the Segradic throne, narrowly escapes assassination by a Transpovanic nationalist gang.   • 970 – Historical enemies Transpovania and Polsawa sign a Mutual Aid Pact in the possible event of Sergradic aggression.   • 1003 – A state of emergency is declared in Transpovania as nationalist gang activity from Sergradic, Wosternic, and Polsawic movements reach a boiling point.   • 1009 – Transpovania bans Sergradic nationalist clubs.   • 1024 – Reports of state-sponsored ethnic cleansings emerge from the lands of former Milic, Harajasic, and Rowic, targeting multiple ethnic groups. The Sergradic government denies involvement. Transpovania and Polsawa demand rights to investigate, but are denied.   • 1029–1034 – Transpovania engages state sponsored pogroms of Sergradic citizens.   • 1035 – Sergrade accepts Sergradic refugees and delegates from Transpovania petitioning the Crown for aid.   • 1036 – Sergrade invades Transpovania citing violence against Sergradic people as justification for war.   • 1037 – Polsawa invades Transpovania from the south, betraying the Mutual Aid Pact.   • 1048 – Transpovania surrenders, ending the Sergrade-Transpovania War.   • 1048 – Second Treaty of Jarosevic
  • o All Transpovanic lands are seceded to Sergrade.
  • o Sergrade gains claims on all Transpovanic lands held by Polsawic forces.
  • o Transpovania is allowed some limited autonomy under a people’s council.
  • 1049 – Sergradic and Polsawic forces meet in central Transpovania. The Polsawic forces retreat, but do not leave Transpovania.   • 1050 – Sergradic forces ambush the Polsawic military amid collapsing peace talks between the two nations regarding lands in Transpovania occupied by Polsawa.   • 1256 – A new Sergradic nationalist government takes power in Oyapilic, and immediately declares Sergrade’s independence from Oyapilic. The remnants of the former Oyapilic government flee to northern Transpovania.   • 1259 – Transpovania declares independence from Oyapilic, officially returning the region to a series of de facto autonomous states. The Oyapilic Government Remnant is forced to surrender.   • 1262 – Polsawa declares war on Transpovania.   • 1263 – The Oyapilic National University is burned to the ground by rioters in Transpovania.   • 1265 – Reports of ethnic cleansing of Sergradic and Transpovanic peoples emerges from Polsawa.   • 1267 – Rowic and Transpovania begin negotiations over disputed borders. Insurgents from Polsawic nationalist gangs disrupt the talks and murder the Rowic officials.   • 1268 – Rowic declares war on Polsawa and Transpovania, forcing the nations into a three-sided war.

Foreign Relations

While the Transpovanic government has made a genuine effort in the past to build more positive relations with its neighbors, Transpovania’s calls for peace usually fall on deaf ears. Its size, location, fertile lands, and history of violence make Transpovania the subject of foreign aggression, especially among Rowic and Polsawa.

Agriculture & Industry

While all Pilic states subside largely on farming, no nation in the Oyapilic sphere does quite as well as Transpovania. Known as the “Breadbasket of Oyapilic,” Transpovania has never in its history suffered from a famine. Excellent management of grain reserves has made food export possible, bringing additional income into the region.
