Republic of Rowic

Structure

Rowic had long been preparing for a move towards independence at the time of Oyapilic’s collapse, allowing a republican government to quickly mobilize. While far from perfect, Rowic suffers from less corruption than other Pilic states and genuinely tries to provide free and fair elections for its Chamber of Ministers. Many Rowic deserters from the OPA left to fight in the national army, forming a competent and highly effective corps of officers and recruits alike.

Culture

The Rowic, like the Milic, are fiercely independent, but far more efficient as economists and administrators. This is due in part to the efforts made in Rowic to provide education to as many citizens as possible. Despite this, Rowic has still suffered from severe ethnic divide and violence which has impeded its growth.

History

• 444–450 – Border clashes between southern Rowic and northern Polsawic nationalist militias escalate into a full scale war ending with a mutually agreed upon ceasefire.
• 750–795 – Economic depression affects the entire region, raising ethnic tensions to an all-time high as different ethnic groups are blamed for the hardship. To the present day, these tensions have not dissipated. The event is known as the Depression of 750.
• 903 – Polsawa violently suppresses a coup attempt from Rowic nationalists.
• 909 – A quick ceasefire is issued between Rowic and Transpovania after a month of border skirmishes.
• 910 – Rowic experiences unprecedented economic growth for the region since the Depression of 750 following new trade policies drafted by the crown.
• 945 – Trade negotiations between Sergrade and Rowic collapse amid high demands from the Segradic government.
• 948 – The Sergradic Royal Navy begins blockading the Rowic coast as trade demands are not met.
• 949 – Rowic capitulates to Sergradic trade demands and faces economic collapse. The Sergradic blockade is lifted. • 955 – Widespread rioting begins across Rowic due to economic hardships.
• 956 – The Rowic royal palace is stormed by rioters and the royal family is killed, as are many nobles throughout the country.
• 956 – The Rowic military collapses and the country falls into a state of anarchy.
• 957 – The Sergradic military invades Rowic under the guise of a peacekeeping mission to restore order.
• 959 – Sergrade installs a puppet government in Rowic.
• 982 – The government of Rowic drafts articles of federation to join the Princedom of Sergrade.
• 983 – The Sergradic government accepts the proposal from the Rowic government, and Sergrade annexes Rowic.
• 1019-1021 – A deadly plague erupts across the land, killing hundreds of thousands.
• 1024 – Reports of state-sponsored ethnic cleansings emerge from the lands of former Milic, Harajasic, and Rowic, targeting multiple ethnic groups. The Sergradic government denies involvement. Transpovania and Polsawa demand rights to investigate, but are denied.
• 1253 – Rowic declares independence from Oyapilic. OPA troops are forced out of the region.
• 1261 – Reports of ethnic cleansing of Sergradic people emerges from Rowic.
• 1267 – Rowic and Transpovania begin negotiations over disputed borders. Insurgents from Polsawic nationalist gangs disrupt the talks and murder the Rowic officials.
• 1268 – Rowic declares war on Polsawa and Transpovania, forcing the nations into a three-sided war.

Like other Pilic states, Rowic does not maintain positive relations with its neighbors, though Rowic maintains an extra high level of hostility with Sergrade due to economic meddling that crashed their economy.

Trade & Transport

Rowic is the only Pilic state that can rival the Sergradic economy. Its position on the central cost makes it a hub for sea trade, and boasts a strong merchant class economy that continued to recover and even grow in the Oyapilic era.
