Yeban Settlement in The World of Angfaulith | World Anvil

Yeban

Located on a large lake connected to a massiv river and swampland sits the city of Yeban. It is the second largest city in Dimha, surpassed only by Quirm. Sporting a population of roughly 26000 it is a powerhouse in naval prowess and trade. It sits on countless small islands on the lake, both natural and artificial, with boats being used as the primary means of transport. A network of arching bridges connects many of the islands, but not all, and all access to the city is by boats. The surrounding lands are mostly marchland, lakes and rivers and streams that get fed by rainwater that fall on the slopes of the graymountains to the west and southwest. Fishing is the first source of food here, and Yebjans pride themselves on their marine cuisine. The greatest merit of the city my many accounts is a great ward that cover the city and repels most manner of insects and vermin, with pollinators being the sole exemptions. The ward was raised by Bernhan Aley the Archmage of the Yebjan mage keep, supposedly in a mad fit over a mosquito that he could not catch one night that resulted in a fireball and a lot of burnt research material. From Yeban to the sea is the great Yebjan river, which is the main connection with the outside world. It is a constant task to dredge it to allow safe passage of ocean going ships with their deep drafts.

Demographics

The city is much more demographicly diverse than most others in Dimha with humans only being the second most common race.

The Mage Keep

The center of arcane in Yebjan and the marches, the mage keep can’t hold the same prestige as the mage tower in Quirm which sets the arcane standard at least on the mainland. No one really talks about the mage tower of the Isle of ash anyway. Whiles not as grandiose as the mage tower of Quirm the mages of Yebjan hold to their own merits as being excellent Abjurers and

Tourism

With its towering stone buildings buildt on the few natural islands, and the stilted wooden houses buildt around them, Yeban is quite the sight for visiting outsiders. The town imports all manner of foods and resourses, and has a vibrant and skilled artisan workforce. Its calm lake also provides a safe winter harbour for ships that seek to shelter out the raging winter storms that plauge the Kesir sea to the north. For this reason Yeban actually see a profit in turism, and a common side profit for residents are renting out rooms for sea travelers.
