The fall of Angor Án and the Kinestéli Myth in The World of Angfaulith | World Anvil

The fall of Angor Án and the Kinestéli

It is a quirc of history that the fall of Angor An is not rather known as the Fall of the Kinestéli. The tragic fate is that the rise and fall of the empire of Kinestéli were to be centered on the mountain with the same name.

Historical Basis

The legend is rooted in actual historical events, but much has become a myth. Ruins of ancient cities and strongholds still litter the lands, and the scars from the war still mark the landscape. The lands around Angor An are covered in darkness and mist with tales of undead still walking the swamps where forests and fields once flourished.

Spread

The story is widely known in eastern Baleria as Kinestéli encompassed a vast territory and some parts of the population survived to record the events.     The 25th of Rholim in the year 489 of the current age an expedition ventured from Dimha to the mountain, where the dark Dragon was encountered. The tale from the handful of survivors is quickly spreading through Dhima.

Variations & Mutation

The tale varies extensively depending on where and by whom it was recorded. In Dimha the Kinestéli empire is naturally vilified and in Marnan the tale centers on the punishment from the Dragon of the mountain for their failure to aid in the war and the shame of the ancestors. Every surviving race has its own variations, but the Darwes and elves do most likely hold the actual events recorded, and with elves, some still living witnesses. Sadly for historians of the human-dominated realms, the Elves and Darwaes have cut all ties and secluded themselves.

Cultural Reception

The story has had a huge impact on the identity and cultures of nations in the eastern Baleria. In Marnan there is an ansestral shame that permeates the culture, and in Dimha it is used as a cautionairy tale against the dabbling in necromancy and deals with the Infernal forces. To this day, the dead in Dimha are cremated to prevent the rise of necromancy.
